Thanks both, I agree it's not the end of the world, it'll just be down to the sensitivity/accuracy of the CT clamp. I'll turn it on anyway 🙂

Having browsed that guide, can anyone think of a reason not to enable "Fast Zero Export"?
My smart meter has finally been fixed for the first time since my inverter etc was installed and I can now see I'm continuously exporting about 5-10W, not a lot but it would add up over a day to maybe 0.1-0.2kWh and if there's a way of hanging on to it I'd prefer to do that!
Ours has fast zero export enabled but we still see a small amount of export every day around 0.2-0.3kwh.
A good bit of that will just be down to the Lux response times and not much you can do about it but it's such a small amount it's not worth losing sleep over.
There's only 2 small blips of export showing on our graph today about 50 watts each, the rest is 0 watts so it's not a constant 'leak' as such.

Exactly the same here a minimal export every day usually 0.1-0.2.. so as you say not worth worrying about

  • I bought one of these for £36 last week  (it's due to be delivered tomorrow).
I looked today and the price has shot up to £63.34 delivered.

My thoughts for not enabling it are that it's mechanical relays that you hear switching over and so in time they will wear out, but rapid switching will definitely wear them out much quicker.
So saving a couple of pence a day vs having the system down for weeks waiting on replacement relays from China doesn't seem like a good choice to me

  • Has anyone increased their production by installing and linking into their system a small wind generator?
I was thinking it would augment the panels, especially in the winter, and would help to keep the batteries topped up all day and night as long as there is enough wind. I live on the NE coast so there's always wind :)

It crossed my mind to stick a small vertical axis one on the roof but I'm guessing you'd need permission and the whole thing could probably turn out to be more bother and costly than its worth for the small savings it would make.
But I'd be interested to hear if you look into it any further or if anyone else has done something along these lines.

I was literally looking this up 2 weeks ago. From what I can see unless you have perfect wind, no blocks to that wind, a really high mount, and really good efficiency, it will likely provide very low double digit watts?!

    Doesn't feel worth it...

  • Wind turbines are frequently discussed on some of the canal boating groups I belong to... hardly anything positive is ever said. Noisy and relatively low output also in the boating scenario the vibration is said to be "Annoying".  I know mounting on a house should be better but the fact that I have never seen a roof mounted one must tell some story?  I did see something a few years ago that sat the turbine in the ridge tiles of the roof that looked interesting
