    Weird Sudden Battery Discharge

Lux AC 3600  and two Greenlinx batteries (6.4kWh) installed just before Xmas.  Over the weeks I've been getting used to all the control settings, and interpreting the data .
I noticed a weird and very sudden discharge of the batteries the other day.
The batteries went from SOC 44% down to SOC 0% in 4 minutes !!  Yes FOUR minutes to dispense of approx 2.8kWh.   . . . .  and usually discharge stops at 10% so it was weird for that too!
Nothing much was on in the house.   In fact we don't possess anything that could consume that amount so quickly.

Might anyone have any ideas as to what could account for this???  Any hypotheses appreciated as food for thought.  I haven't messed with any "forced discharge " settings but  I did see a UFO in the sky 10 minutes before.  (Jus kiddin)

    Thanks  SolarPolar

Does anyone know why my Pylontechs (4 x 2.4kW) stop discharging at around 30%? Most days it is not a problem because my other PV system also has an additional 6.7kW storage but on very grey days we occasionally revert to grid during peak rate in the evening which is obviously not ideal.

Lux on-grid, off-grid discharge & stop discharge settings are at 10% cutoff as well as (Charge Priority) Priority Charge Level but the lowest achieved before the house reverts to grid was 28% SOC, normally its 30-32% so I seem to have far less available than I should (6.7kW @30% max usable instead of 8.6kW @90% usable).

I've tried emailing Lux & Michael at Home Energy Group (my supplier, sister of Big Green Beard) but no response from either.
You don't say what Lux unit you have. It might help to start there as there are different models. Maybe they all have the saame settings maybe they don't. I only have experience with the ACS 3600. If it is this model then if it were me I would probably check that it is set for the correct battery type. AFAIK Pylontech is type 2.

By the way, I hope you are a fan of Simon and Garfunkel because the Sound of Silence may well be your favorite tune soon. I have had the same experience but others on here have had very good responses from Lux. Perhaps it is the questions asked ? I suspect if it is something simple like can you upgrade my firmware then you get a response. If it is anything technical where maybe they need to think about the problem then perhaps not ??

Lux SquirrelPod which is an ACS 3600 but with the facility to pair several of them (ie two - 7kWh discharge, three = 10.5kWh etc).

Where can I check the battery setting please? (although the installer Mark is very experienced & set everything up properly so I'm pretty confident it will be correct)

Only time ever.  Found it in the data sheets too.  SOC went from 44% to 0%  in an instant.  None of the other data jumped out as odd.  No weirdly huge or small numbers compared to the rest. (not that I claim to understand what they all mean anyway)

Wow.......Greenlinx batteries can go down to Zero ??? Dunno then mate, best you raise a case with your installer and get them to investigate. Unless it's a false positive (meaning it didn't really happen it's just an anomaly in the data) then the only thing that cause cause such a rapid drop in power is either it dumped it onto the grid OR there was a dead short but the latter would have created some serious heat.

One thing you might want to try is go onto the Lux power app or the website and reset the Luxpower unit to default (this is the user setting only, it won't affect anything the installer did). I was given what seemed to be a used unit first which had a charge profile on it. I discovered it sucking in a huge amount of power the first day of install at 9pm. I reset the values to factory and it never did it again.

I'd expect it to be the lux rather than the batteries, however I'd ask are all your batteries the same?
I find I have to use the oldest battery as the primary, using newer ones as primary causes issues.

Your discharge page in the app should look like this:-

I generally get a very quick response from lux (under 6 hours), however the last week or so that has suddenly stopped.

Probably because of Chinese New Year.

Are all the soc lights on each battery the same level ?  maybe one is out of balance
  • Answering questions asked - my discharge settings page is the same as the screenshot provided by Solarchaser, all four batteries were new and supplied at the same time (April 2022) and all four show exactly the same behaviour - all have the same light levels as they charge & discharge so there’s no noticeable difference at any point during the cycle.
