Contract Signed Date not confirmed

Hi all
I will just jump right in
We are first time buyers and put offer in on house the first week of Dec accepted the same day. We were told when viewing seller wanted to be out by end of Jan start of Feb so we said to ourselves it be Feb. It is now March and we still dont have a completion date.

We received contracts on the 18th of Feb with closing date set as 3 weeks from date seller signs and returns which isn't the best but we went with it. 2 weeks later he signed the contract but a special condition was added after we signed where we will not completed until his purchase of his new build is complete. We did not agree to this and have sent response back to his solicitor.

I got on to the EA and said we need to know a date at this stage we were informed he estimates 21st or 24th of March which again still isn't a solid date.
We are getting from this that we wishes to buy and sell on the same day. So move out of existing house and move into his new build on the same day.
The EA has also said he is getting sick of it as wont give him a direct answer

Does anybody have any ideas what else we can do before we pull. Because we are at that stage now where we will walk away as keep getting told he be out by next week or 2 weeks etc.

They can 'want' all they like, but it takes as long as it takes. Usually 3 months. (Presuming England.)

Why the rush? Does it matter to you if it's two weeks or eight weeks later than first thought? If you want a week or so between exchange and completion, say so.

Honestly we need to know a date as renting but landlord very flex with everything but same point i dont want to keep saying yes we need another month here at the end of every month.
Yea we just want a confirmed date at this stage even if they say a date in April that be fine but all we keep getting is time scales off them.
what more annoying is the fact they added a condition after we signed

That's pretty common to be fair, most people want to avoid moving twice if at all possible.
Given the process appears to be at a pretty advanced stage, withdrawing at this point might feel a little like cutting off nose to spite face.
There are a lot of variables involved in buying/selling a house, no one person is in control of them all.

We just think its been dragged out from been told Jan and now 14 weeks later still no date.
Think because we waiting so long we just want it over with

Why does your LL even know yet? You don't need to say 'another month'. You know you automatically enter a periodic/rolling contract?

If he’s selling then I’d say this date or I’m not buying it, he can’t dictate wether he wants to stay just because his isn’t built, he can go rent or live with someone else. Unless it suits you if it doesn’t then tell him or walk

Yep, incredibly common, the norm in fact.
I don't doubt that it has been dragged out so your vendor's new build is ready.
Whilst I can imagine that feels very frustrating, 14 weeks is far from an unusual period of time for a house purchase, and it does rather sound the end isn't far off

Cause we had a 12 month lease which was up in Jan 2020. So we needed to inform him.

If I were you I would start looking at other houses. It will make you feel better whilst they faff about. Its possible you will also find one that you love so much you're prepared to start again with a new purchase despite the sunk costs.
