The registration phone call is automated, I understand, you don't talk to a human.

Still plenty of time though
As has been discussed in an earlier post.

And if true, how recent is recently?
How would you explain that this is not mentioned in the Guide to Changes?0 -

New account holders agree to different terms (dates) when they apply. I don't know exactly when the cut-off was.2 -
There are a few payments which don’t count for Reward Extras offers:
- When you take cash out of a cash machine, branch or Post Office counter.
- When you make a money transfer to another account.
Any payments being queried or disputed won't count towards the £500 or £5,000. And we’ll only count payments that leave your account by the last day of the month.
But all purchases on your card count. This includes purchases you make online, in-store and abroad.
You can also use digital wallets, like Apple Pay, Google Pay or similar schemes, as long as they’re linked to your registered debit card.
Got this directly from Halifax site.

The letters notifying existing account holders state that you need to make the call to register that you're happy to keep the Reward account by 15th May, and the accounts change on 1st June. How would you explain that this is not mentioned in the Guide to Changes?

The message I have in my inbox says May 15th deadline for election and June 1st for start. I'm not disputing you can find the later deadlines (I have seen it) but best to check what your letter or inbox message says.
Also, the number ending 9733 is working just now* and in the welcome message it also says that from June 1st the £1500 needs to be paid in or you won't avoid the £3 charge... Does the letter with the later dates offer a different number?
*I believe these are getting taken down intermittently to amend or add cov19 messages.

I managed to change mine just now and the message is definitely from 1st June 2020 too, as was the letter. I used the number shown on my online banking which is the same as above for Soulsaver.
Was MFW#60 - mortgage paid off December 20210
