@colsten I made a debit card payment last week to YBS and after it goes through, takes a day or so, if I tap the transaction in the list it brings up the details along with an illustration of a debit card and describing it as a online/phone/mail order purchase.1

Transaction type:
Debit Card (DEB)
Retailer Name:
YORKSHIRE BS
Authorisation Method:
Online/phone/mail order purchase
Date of transaction:
Wednesday 11 March 2020
Same as Y.P described, in my case via online banking as opposed to via app, Coop Bank shows my 1p water payments as purchases as well

I can't see any of that sort of detail on any of my transactions - but then, the debit card transactions I made are still pending.
I reckon they classify all debit card transactions made online as purchases. This doesn't mean that they deem all purchases as qualifying. Time will tell.0 -
The thread starts with comments that this letter came into the online banking messages.
Have people also received it by post?
I've received neither.0 -

I have not received anything but if this is the Case then will be looking to Leave Halifax as Reward Account not viable to me anymore0

Looks like I too will also be closing this account... I use Barclays as my 'in' account, transfer bill money over to Halifax where all the DD's come out. I've never used the debt card, (not even sure where it is).Any advice on where to move my 'out' account to?Aspiring to be financially independent.... from my parents!0

So I have read most of the pages within the thread and there appears to be some confusion over the £500 debit card spend to qualify for the £5 a month reward!
We already have 1 Halifax Reward Account each plus a Joint Account and enjoyed the then £5 reward, which reduced to £2, each month by doing the following;
Pay our salaries into the solus Halifax Accounts and bounce them back out minus the DD's needed (for now) via Standing Order, to 2 solus TSB accounts, that until recently earned 3% interest on any balance up to £1500.
On the same day we bounce the Salaries back out of the TSB accounts where the salaries finish their journey in our personal accounts which we have always had and pays other commitments.
We then pay by SO, half the living bills into the joint Halifax account to tick the £1500 pay in box.
We dont have the £5k to leave in the accounts to qualify for it so the only way is spend £500 for each of the 3 accounts we already have.
I am going to try to pay £500 using my Halifax Debit Card into my TSB Account (used as my savings Account) to see if that works and will see if there is an automatic way of doing this as it saves having to call each month TSB to action this.
Question to you readers - what do you think - anyone tried this already? Any feedback?
Thanks in advance and can I also say thanks to you all for contributing to this thread as its been very helpful!0
