    Forget the old house.
Give us your actual consumptions please in kWh (not £)
Units (kWhs) billed (gas) =  18078
    electricity units used =  2183
    6 months of consumption
An average a day of 100kWh for gas and 12kWh of electricity.  That seems reasonable for winter months, given the make up of your household.

However, £240 a month seems far too much for that usage.  Is your energy account significantly in credit?

    Electric is typical
One check for the gas - look at the serial number on the meter and note if its m3 or ft3 -  are these the same on the bill ?
on the meter is m3, but i can't find it on the bill

It's the "1" under metric conversion factor. So all correct.
Your supplier is robbing you. Switch now!

Actually it's worse than I thought as you were quoting prices without VAT and I was quoting prices including VAT.
Assuming you use the 23,000kWh suggested on your bill you will pay £1236. Whereas my supplier Gulf would charge me £613.
Similarly your 3946kWh suggested electricity consumption will cost you £893, whereas that would cost me £505 from my supplier Symbio.

Even those prices seem high. You should be able to do better then that.
