Thanks for the explanation - it is definitely unusual to be able to do that.

Halifax and Lloyds cards only require a sort code and account number to execute a Money Transfer, so I dare say it's possible to transfer to a third-party's account, but it is crystal clear on the transfer screen that it is only permitted to an account in your own name.

I can do money transfers through MBNA and it appears to work in a similar way to balance transfers -

    0% interest p.a. over 18months with a 4% fee Or 3.9% interest p.a. over 36months with a 0% fee

it does say that it is only to transfer to my own accounts though:

Transfer money to your current account

Take money that's available from your credit card and put it in any of your own UK current accounts.

    Money transfers:

    • form part of your credit card balance
    • are subject to repayments as part of your monthly statement balance
    • are not protected by Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act 1974
