Defrauded via intercepted email

A friend organises an annual ski trip for about 15 people. Deposit was paid to travel agent fine. I received an email from the organiser to pay the balance of the trip £1400. The organiser sent an email with bank details. Nothing unusual. I organised the payment via my banking app from my credit card. Subsequently discovered the organiser's email had been intercepted and bank details changed. Obvoiusly the travel agent did not receive the funds. I have complained to my bank, waited 30 days and the they informed me there were no funds to recover from the account where the money was sent. So I am not getting my money back. Can I make a claim under section 75? Thanks all.

Nothing unusual.It may not be unusual, but it is a well known potential form of scamming.I know it's too late for you/your friend, but for others reading, always confirm bank details received by e-mail by contacting the organisation in question by some other method (e.g website or via a phone number obtained from a legitimate source - don't rely on phone numbers or website links contained in the hacked e-mail). And/or send a small amount first and get the recipient to confirm they have received it before sending the larger balance using the same details.1

How did you make a payment from your credit card into a travel agent's bank account?
For example, was it that you have a money transfer credit card that allows you to put money from it straight into your bank account, and then you made a payment from your bank account to the travel agent's bank account?
(If that's the case, the fraud was related to the payment from your bank account to the travel agent's bank account. Section 75 relates to credit and credit cards - not to payments between bank accounts. So Section 75 isn't relevant.)

No. Payment was made using a credit card. Was like a cash advance (thats what it says on statement) . I used my banking app to set up payee details and then transferred the money from my credit card.

Sorry could you just explain a bit about how you made the payment
are you saying you went on to your banking app, transferred the money from your credit card into your current account and then made the payment using faster payment from your current account ?
if this is correct than you have no section 75 protection because the payment was made via faster payment from your current account and not from the credit card
however I may be a misunderstanding the situation0
