If it was a money transfer direct to the 'travel agent' the S75 protection is still not in place.

Money was moved directly from my credit card to fake bank account details. Thanks
Maybe somebody with more than my very basic understanding of how these scams work can clarify ?
Is it a UK bank sort code and account number ?
If so, surely it's not a fake account in the sense it doesn't exist ?

I'm curious as to which credit card was used. None of mine permit Money Transfers directly to a third-party's account.

Yes, the recipient account is a Uk account. At Coventry Building society. I cant believe in this day and age that someone can open an account without relevant id

No. Payment was made using a credit card. Was like a cash advance (thats what it says on statement) . I used my banking app to set up payee details and then transferred the money from my credit card.

What is the name of your banking app?

Is it some kind of 'payment app' that takes money from your credit card and sends it to a bank account (a bit like a variation of paypal), or is the app actually provided by your bank?

Either way, if it says "Cash Advance" on your statement, you will have no protection at all from your credit card - no section 75, and no chargeback.

Essentially, you took a "Cash advance" - and the credit card company then has no control over what you do with that cash, and therefore no responsibility.

Typically, the fraudsters trick a "money mule" into letting them use their bank account.

    For example:

They say to a naive 18 year old "We'll give you £200 if you let us use your online bank account for a couple of weeks."

Or "I need to receive some payments, but I don't have a bank account - is it OK if the payment is made into your account? Then you withdraw the money and send it to me by Western Union? You can keep 10% of the payments."

The "money mule" ends up getting into huge trouble, but the fraudsters are never traced.

If the Clydesdale/Yorkshire Bank app is anything like the Virgin Money app (quite possible since they are now part of the same organisation ) in the money transfer section it will let you enter any account number and sort code you like for the transfer destination. It does warn you that the transfer should only be made to an account in your own name, but there doesn't appear to be anything stopping you entering a third party's account details in there if you really wanted to. I can only assume that's what the OP has done in the mistaken belief that it would give them s75 protection.
