Why would a main dealership carry out an MOT six months before it was due ?

Do you also get an echo every time?

You are either very lucky or very daft, not sure which.Deleted_User said:I don’t think I’ve ever had to replace discs or pads in 30 years of motoring. I never believe them when they say they could do with replacing. Let the Mot fail then first.I do around 14000 a year and drive like a chauffeur so my tyres last well too.
Waiting until your brakes are classed as dangerous (failing an MOT) is daft.
"Driving like a chauffeur" doesn't mean you'll never need to brake quickly.Life isn't about the number of breaths we take, but the moments that take our breath away. Like choking....1 -
drive like a chauffeur? Trust me, you don't if you wait till an mot fail before replacing pads and/or discsDeleted_User said:I don’t think I’ve ever had to replace discs or pads in 30 years of motoring. I think you're all being jolly unfair. IDGWIAMT is absolutely right.
I'm sure all chauffeurs drive around for 11 and a bit months on brakes that are metal-on-metal giving insufficient actual retardation to pass the low MOT standard.
Oh, sorry. I'm thinking of the other professionals at the wheel of large saloons... Minicab drivers...

I’ve just bought a replacement car and I asked the dealer for a fresh MOT on it. The current one runs until September, but I’d rather have a fresh one just in case there’s any surprises hidden.

Worrying that we share the roads with people that use the MOT test as a guide to safely maintaining their cars.Deleted_User said:I don’t think I’ve ever had to replace discs or pads in 30 years of motoring. That's a very sizable swathe of the motoring public.Mutton_Geoff said:Worrying that we share the roads with people that use the MOT test as a guide to safely maintaining their cars.
How often do we have people on here complaining that the MOT has just cost them many hundreds, perhaps more than the car's value, and it's all soooooo unfair and unreasonable...?1 -
In theory, you could drive 420,000 miles (30 years of 14k) just using engine braking and you would not need to replace the pads or discs.0
