Whilst I can see that my travel insurance covers me for cancelled or delayed flights to/from my destination - I cannot see any reference to who covers the costs of accommodation, food etc if you are quarantined in a hotel etc but not personally ill. Also in those circumstances, your flight may not have been cancelled/delayed - you just didn't show up. Are you covered for that as well.0

I have read on the Schengen Visa Info site that some Insurance Companies have started to implement Corona virus related issues into their policies. Does anyone know which insurance companies offer travel insurance and their resp.policy accounts for or includes clauses for Corona Virus related issues like flight cancellations, entry denial or medical cover overseas?
(maybe good for MSE.com to make a top 10 travel insurance list report on this?)

FiPilks said:Hi, my employer is banning leisure travel to certain listed destinations (as well as pretty much all business travel) due to the coronavirus outbreaks and I'm due to go on holiday to France at the weekend. I've approached my manager and HR and waiting for them to reply, my insurance has the usual FCO clause. Do you have any extra advice if my employer tells me not to go?1

I'm travelling to India and Vietnam in June and I'm debating whether or not to book flights now or in the near future in the hope that they'll be cheaper. Alternatively, is it possible that flight prices could actually increase due to cancellations?Prices could drop.Prices could increase.Airlines could cancel routes.Countries could stop immigration.I'd be more worried about the last 2 than the cost of flights.

Hi
I'm travelling in April, the city airport that I transit through has defined cases and the city I'm staying in has defined cases. Not many in each and no advice not to travel by FCO.
My Barclays Travel Pack Insurance states the detail below, customer services talked about FCO advice, but this doesn't mention FCO:
"We will pay for costs that each insured person has paid, and cannot get back, or which legally have to be paid for their own personal travel and accommodation (including excursions and unused kennel, cattery or professional pet sitter fees up to a maximum of £250) if, after you added the Travel Pack to your Qualifying Account or booked your trip, (whichever is later), you unavoidably have to cancel your trip for one of the reasons below:
If one of the following events occurs or prevents you from travelling within 31 days of your scheduled departure date:
a. an avalanche, earthquake, explosion, fire, flood, landslide, severe/adverse weather renders your pre-booked accommodation unreachable or uninhabitable.
b. a Foreign and Commonwealth Office advisory notice is in place advising against all travel or all but essential travel to your destination is still in place. Or you choose not to travel because:
c. your accommodation is directly affected by a food poisoning outbreak, or the area in which you are staying is affected by a pandemic or epidemic influenza.
d. a major incident such as a terrorist attack happens within a 50 mile radius of the area in which you will be staying and you do not wish to travel. "
From this I'm taking that if there is one case in any of the cities I transit through then the "area is affected by epidemic influenza"
The head of the WHO stated today "But as you know, even as the Ebola outbreak is winding down, the epidemic of COVID-19 is becoming increasingly complex." So they've stated it's an epidemic.
Thoughts? Thanks!!!

Westin said:@maman - tend to agree, one thread on the subject would probably be enough and might help. That said people seem not to be bothering to look even one or two pages down to see other Covid-19 threads, read through the comments seeing if their concerns have been addressed from other posters.
With the new site we don't seem to be able to identify the board guides who would normally tidy things up.
Secondly, and this has been a long term hobby horse, I loathe mse employees starting threads and then not giving any feedback. It's pointless and especially infuriating at the moment when there are so many ways that mse people could be gainfully employed sorting out all the website issues.
It'll be interesting to see if mseCallum returns and responds to any of the posts.

I am in a it of a quandry. My family and I are booked to go to Lake Garda on 21st may for 12 nights. I insure myself separately as I am 69 and have some pre existing conditions, none too serious. I can get cover but the cheaper options are for companies insured with Rock or URV ( German company ). These are not mentioned on Martins coronavirus list but to get one there will be over £180 instead of £65. Obviously I am concerned as there are problems in Northern Italy, though where I am going is not yet on shut down. I am also due to pay the balance of the holiday in 3 weeks. What would you do? Any advice appreciated0
