If you know who the board guides are Callum, would you ask them to merge all the existing coronavirus threads. Then we can have the 'full story' all in one place.

  • Hi,
My wife and I are due to go to Mauritius on our honeymoon in May. The current foreign office advise mentions that any people arriving from the hot spots in Italy etc are to be placed in quarantine for 14 days. I was just wondering, if the situation was to be slightly different when we go out and we were to be placed in quarantine when we fly out would this be covered by our travel insurance and/or would virgin holidays refund or postpone our holiday?
Spending our honeymoon would be far from ideal and we've spent a lot of money on this holiday
  • Is there any kind of insurance that will cover the cancellation of an event due to coronavirus? I have spent a lot of money on festival tickets in the summer, when the government guidelines say the peak could be and events like this could be cancelled. What are implications on tickets purchased? Would credit card companies refund if you paid with a card? Or is there insurance that will cover any travel arrangements and the actual ticket price?

@maman - tend to agree, one thread on the subject would probably be enough and might help. That said people seem not to be bothering to look even one or two pages down to see other Covid-19 threads, read through the comments seeing if their concerns have been addressed from other posters.
@zenmaran - May is a long time off and I suspect situations will change by then.  You will need to check travel restrictions nearer to your departure and abide by those regulations that are enforce at the time.
@nixh255 - For individual attendance I doubt it.  Hopefully the festival organisers would just refund pre purchased tickets. Possibly a credit card claim if the show does not happen. If not, it looks like a loss you will have to take.
  • Hi, my employer is banning leisure travel to certain listed destinations (as well as pretty much all business travel) due to the coronavirus outbreaks and I'm due to go on holiday to France at the weekend. I've approached my manager and HR and waiting for them to reply, my insurance has the usual FCO clause. Do you have any extra advice if my employer tells me not to go?

How can your employer tell you where not to go in your own annual leave time?
  • If my holiday company cancels my holiday - Italy in June, will I get a full refund or will they deduct their usual admin charge? If this happens, what about my car parking charges? If I claim on insurance, the excess will wipe out the claim.
  • Covid-19 article is helpful, but does not mention train or ferry travel, as far as I can see. Some rail operators, e.g. OBB Austrian railways, are offering refunds on imminent booked tickets to Italy . The assumption is that everyone flies on holiday, which is not accurate.
  • The table in the news article "Which insurers will cover you if your travel is affected by coronavirus?" is incorrect for Admiral Insurance.
I have a Platinum Annual Policy from Admiral and the cover states the following:
"We will not pay any claim resulting from your travel to a country or area, where the FCO advised against 'all travel' or 'all but essential travel'."

So if you do travel, against FCO advice, you have no cover. This might lead you to to cancel, in light of the FCO advice but this is where Admiral gets you with a double-whammy. The Trip Cancellation Cover clause states:
"We will not pay any claim for cancellation or cutting short your trip where the FCO advised 'against all travel' or 'against all but essential travel' to the country or area you are travelling to."

I did email Admiral about coronavirus cover and they confirmed that, if the FCO issues travel restrictions for a destination, I'm not covered for anything in the policy if I travel against the FCO advice.
I'm also not covered for costs if I instead decide to cancel in light of the FCO advice.

Do people expect flight prices to drop in the coming weeks/months? I'm travelling to India and Vietnam in June and I'm debating whether or not to book flights now or in the near future in the hope that they'll be cheaper. Alternatively, is it possible that flight prices could actually increase due to cancellations?
