Anybody repaired walking boots?

Not sure if this is the correct forum but it seemed the best fit.
I went for a walk yesterday and my 15 year old walking boots are coming apart at the sole. As the boots are still waterproof I'm sure I can stick the sole back together but I don't know what adhesive to use. Has anybody repaired walking/work boots successfully?

  • I'll open this post by clarifying that I've never done any diy repairs on my shoes and I don't own any walking boots/shoes. I've always gone to a shoe repairer when my shoes have needed repairing.

There are various videos on youtube of people repairing their boots, but I don't know how successful they are.  My understanding is that best/correct adhesive to use is either barge cement or a contact adhesive (The type that comes in 2 parts that have to be mixed together, applied to the surfaces, left to go tacky and the surfaces pressed and held/clamped together until dry) not superglue it dries too stiff and doesn't allow any flexing when moving.

If you don't feel up to diying or would rather get someone to do it for you the follow all do walking boot repairs:
https://www.bootrepaircompany.co.uk/   http://www.cheshireshoe.co.uk/   https://www.resoles.co.uk/walking-boot-repairs/walking-boot-repair-prices.html  https://lancashiresportsrepairs.co.uk/walking-boot-repairs-and-resoles/.  Or if you have any good independent shoe/boot repairers need you I would go and ask them if they can help.

Not worth the hassle you can get a pair of Hi Tec for about £35.

Unfortunately cheap boots won't work for me, and I would actually prefer to repair

Any particular reasons why "cheap boots won't work" for you and you would prefer to repair?
I know this is a money saving site but I can't believe it makes any sense to repair 15 year old walking boots.  The uppers and midsole must have deteriorated terminally over that time, let alone the sole.  If they have to be repaired get it done professionally - if you try yourself they may end up worse.

I've got some walking/snow Merrell boots and the upper started coming away from the sole, I used super glue last year and so far so good :) I've been skiing 3 times since and used them for walking around while there with no problems
definitely worth a try, if it doesn't work you haven't lost anything

You need to see any good DIY youtube video. I think it is easy to fix if you have guts and all tools to repair.

Shoe Goo often effects a temporary repair. About the best I've found for repairs. Generally cheaper on ebay. there is a polish brand that is cheaper that is the same stuff but I forget the name.

I'd suggest if you'd want them done by Scarpa, you probably shouldn't do a DIY repair.
