It's certainly better to get your insurance as soon as possible in the current climate, you never know whether insurance companies are going to harden their stance once they get a sniff of a possibility that they are going to get a deluge of claims! Good luck finding something decent and enjoy Lisbon - lovely city.0

We could well be on the same cruise, ours is in May. We originally booked flights and everything as a package through Thomas Cook for our 30th Wedding Anniversary, it includes a stay in Barcelona at the start and Venice at the end. As it was Travel2 on the ATOL form they have picked it up since TC went bust and have been mostly helpful although they are clearly geared for dealing with agents and not directly with customers.Maureens said:I booked a cruise last friday going from barcelona round Itay and venice and had to pay deposit which incuded flights not refundable how do I stand now with the cororvirse been mention there this week
We have annual worldwide travel insurance, I pay extra as I had bowel cancer last year. This needs renewing before we go.
This leaves a number of scenarios. If the cruise is cancelled I assume I'm covered by package holiday protection. Likewise if there are changes to the itinerary and we ended the cruise in say Dubrovnik then booking changes should be supported by this.
If either of us are ill or the FO guidance is not to travel we are covered by the insurance.
My two issue are
1) What if the insurance renewal has an added clause that doesn't cover corona virus and we struggle to get replacement insurance.
2) What if we are well on the dates but have to self quarantine, for example if someone at work has had it so we aren't able to travel. It isn't clear if we are covered.

I'd be interested to hear people's thoughts on my issue.
Booked non-refundable flights to Japan for end of March with Lufthansa - it's a 4 week trip visiting 7 or 8 cities in the country. Currently there's about 1000 Corona cases there and rising each day.
I'm Diabetic Type 1 and so have a weakened immune system. I'm seeing the doc on Monday to get a doctor's note as we've decided best not to travel. Fortunately all hotels we've organised are on a refundable basis, it's just the flights that are the problem and obviously my wife and I never expected to have to cancel the upcoming trip :-(
I haven't contacted my travel insurance company, nor Lufthansa as yet.
Does anyone in the know think I have a case to be refunded or is it unlikely and just have to take it on the chin (paid in full with my AmEx cc last August)? Thanks very much for any assistance.0 -
Japan currently has 204 active cases (I suspect your 1000 number was including the cruise ship passengers)
Lufthansa does not appear to have any waivers for Japan - https://www.lufthansa.com/de/en/flight-information.html (any changes etc would be as per fare rules)
No current FCO guidance re Japan so I guess it depends on whether your insurance covers your pre-existing conditions and whether your doctor is going to state that you are not fit to travel (although it may be too soon for them to certify if you are not travelling for a month)
things will be changing daily....if you have decided not to travel, I would hold off cancelling to see the position nearer the time re refunds1 -
Hi, asking corona related question so asking on an existing thread as requested.
Booked flights direct, 2 seperate holidays in Ibiza and Costs del sol. booked accommodation through alpha rooms. all paid for by credit card. Spain is currently not on the list of affected areas at all. Am completely hsppy to travel there assuming all formal travel advice allows it.
Question - if travel advice changes, can i get money back and if so what insurance/insurer should i be getting. looking to book today. thanks in advance.Dec 2010=£160k.

Thank you - very informative. I guess will just have to see what happens in next few weeks in the run up to when we're scheduled to leave for Japan. My travel insurance does include my pre-existing condition of Diabetes but still unsure if they'll pay out if we decide not to travel, even with a doctor's note. I'll update on this thread with how it goes nearer the time. Thanks again.Caz3121 said:Japan currently has 204 active cases (I suspect your 1000 number was including the cruise ship passengers)
