You may find answers here (although possibly not the answers you ideally want to hear) https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-51615412
The BBC News website has been updating its article on Traveller's Rights, today including a section on what happens if you are placed into quarantine whilst on holiday and travel plans for Italy.

The situation is constantly changing. This BBC source appears to be good for information and is being updated.

We seem to have a large number Corona type threads being opened, often with similar themed questions.  A polite request for new posters to perhaps review existing thread first to see if their question has been already asked and answered.  If not perhaps add to one of the existing threads rather than start afresh.

I booked a cruise last friday going from barcelona round Itay and venice and had to pay deposit which incuded flights not refundable how do I stand now with the cororvirse been mention there this week.

As long as the Department of Health do not say to travel to any of your planned destinations you will not get a refund. Even your insurance won't pay out.
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

Basically extra days cover. I will be in an airbnb.   My holiday is 8 days. If l am in quarantine or need medical care day 9 and on, am l covered?
If you've booked you should have travel insurance already so ask them. If you've risked it so far and not got any then its a question for the insurance companies themselves.

Your EHIC should cover medical care but as you're staying in a private rental you may run into problems if you have to stay on there if you've tested positive. They may have other guests moving in.

They do have other guests moving in the same day l leave.  I will phone the insurance company to ensure l get cover.  Thanks.

You are only likely to be quarantined it you are staying in a hotel complex or on one of the monstrous floating hotels, where you can’t avoid being in contact with lots of other people sharing a relatively small  area with shared facilities.
  • This is the only mention I can find of Coronovirus on the forum and just wanted to share my recent experience of cancelling a forthcoming trip.
I have a kidney transplant and my immune system is severely compromised. I am due to be traveling to Amsterdam in April to visit the Keukenhof flower festival, which will be very crowded with visitors from all over the world. We decided to cancel a couple of days ago rather than risk my health. EasyJet obviously will not refund the flight but everyone else has been very understanding and have refunded even non refundable costs.
If things get a lot worse and flights are cancelled, I will hopefully get that refunded as well but meanwhile it's worth asking for refunds if you have good reasons not to travel.
  • Hi

Looking for advice please. I'm due to go to Lisbon in 4 weeks but don't yet have travel insurance. What should I be looking for in T&C's to be sure I'd get a refund if travel was cancelled or advised against. Is this a pretty standard thing to be covered? I'm in an AirBNB too, so if stranded how can I make sure I could get back any incurred costs?

I actually doubt my holiday will go ahead at all but just want to minimise any financial loss. Prepared to pay more than my usual £8 for policy this time!

What would you be looking for in a policy? Thanks! :)

  • Pregnancyparking as your taking out insurance now and are aware of the problem you may not get anything back if your trip doesn't go ahead also your flight and accommodation was booked earlier than you have taken out insurance. You should take insurance out at the time of booking to ensure everything is covered.

  • Thanks explorerdora
I don’t always take insurance out at the same time but always get cover (and have claimed once and it was ok). Is that an official stance of travel insurance?
Also technically I’m not aware of any problem as currently there are no problems in Portugal.
    I think I’ll just buy a policy
  • I'm sure that Explorerdora is giving correct advice.
You should always buy insurance as soon as you book a trip otherwise they won't cover you for cancellation. They could easily claim for example, that you bought the insurance when you did so that you could get a refund if you cancelled, especially when you know that cancellation is a possibility due to this virus.
  • I do appreciate the advice and I know I should book at the same time but I don’t believe it is a condition of cover. I’ve never been asked when a trip was booked when taking insurance.
