But had you been stopped. You had proof that you had bought the insurance. That would put the ball in the insurance companies court.
They would simply have advised the police of their error and off you would have gone with no problems.
Yes it is reasonable amount.
But if you feel you want more than let the  complaint go to FOS and let them rule on it. Might get more, might not. But will take at least several months to be sorted.

I can't believe that I actually read through all these postings. If this minor "upset" has caused you all this agro then how on earth will you get thru the real sht that life throws at you .

You could always report yourself to the police for driving without insurance, then you would have a good reason to complain to the insurance company.
