  • Thank you to all the contributors here. I did wonder whether to post or not, and the thanks has been welcome.
    Without being too soapboxy, I think that our society needs more of this attitude - both in solidarity with those who have little, and in needing to promote a more sustainable lifestyle generally.
    Of course we have treats - there will be a bottle of wine tonight, and one of my favourite puds that I make once a year - Moorish tart made with Seville oranges and chocolate!
    I am also fortunate to live in an area with a lot of local talent and very good concerts and enjoyable occasions like quiz night (don't we wish JackieO was still on here to tell us about her wins!) all of which are kept at a reasonable cost.
  • Life without treats is dull indeed but our treats are rather mundane like home made cake while we watch the rugby rather than champagne and caviar.  The thing being that I LIKE homemade cake, don't fancy fish eggs at all and find champagne rather horrid!  Cups of tea, now that's a treat you just cannot get enough of!
