Hi Everyone. We have FTTP. It's the only broadband we can have in our new build and unfortunately it's not supplied alot.
When we first moved in 20 months ago we signed up to the highest speed a(£59.99 a month)it was the best deal with a prepaid credit card etc. After our 18 month contract ended we have no decided to reduce the package to the lowest(£27.99 a month). As we only use it to stream Netflix and access sky catch up. We have been told by BT that we can not downgrade our package as the FTTP speed was set up in the beginning and now can't be reduced ?!
Surely this cannot be true and feel like they are abusing us as customer as they know that we can't get FTTP from many other places so forcing us to stay with the higher payment. Knowing we can't just go else where like standard fibre broadband etc.
Has anyone else been in this situation?! What did you do as we cannot justify paying £59.99 monthly on something we hardly use. But we also don't want to not have broadband as we do like a Netflix binge when we get chance!
thanks everyone!

See many identical posts .Have you actually checked for other suppliers ??.Yes FTTP is a more expensive product ,they are not abusing you they can offer what they want .What is this so called highest speed 300 meg .I would use your members community forum see if you get any CS help .Not sure about lowering a package speed over FTTP .If you do cancel then it may incur extra charges .Phone up ask for complaints and see where you get .0

It feels like they're lying to you. Imagine you started with the lowest tariff and wanted to upgrade to a tariff with higher speed. Would they say the same in this case?

We aren't bothered that the FTTP is more expensive than regular broadband. Thanks not the issue.
The issue is we were given this package as it was the best deal at the time but now we are out of contract they won't let us lower the package. Therefore forcing us to pay the higher rate.
They told us if we were to cancel there would be a time period of where we cannot reconnect the house, so cancelling and resigning up to the lower contract is an option but not a great one.
At the beginning we should have been made aware about not being able to lower the package as we may not have gone for the highest package in that case.
I'm.sure if we wanted to upgrade our package. I bet that would be an easy switch.
We have since been back on the phone and numerous staff have told us they don't know much about FTTP and don't know if we can or can't upgrade. Surely they can't sell a product they don't know about?!0 -

Yes we are out of contract but there aren't any other competitors. But they won't lower the package.0

I find it utterly bizarre BT won't let you downgrade say from 330/50 FTTP to 40/10 FTTP over the phone, now that you're out of the min contract period. Best thing to do would be to cancel the service and then place a fresh order on BT website for their 40/10 FTTP service.0

Who are you speaking to??? You prob need to talk to the FTTP team not the general support team. Otherwise go to retentions and threaten to leave. Zen do fttp as others mention.
