Personal Independence Payment - moving into supported living....

Options
Hello there... my son is moving into supported living shortly. He currently receives ESA and Personal Independence Payment with mobility. I am trying loosely to work out his budget - bills. food, clothes etc. He is going to be receiving 1:1 hours and be supported the rest of the time on a 1 in 3 basis.. with two other youngsters sharing the house. I realise that once he moves out carers allowance stops.. obviously... what I am trying to ascertain is whether the care component of his PIP is also taken from him. Many thanks

It would if he was in residential, but I think in supported living he would keep it. However then there would also be a financial assessment with regards to his contribution towards his care. Has that happened yet?

What about housing benefit - can he claim that or will he need to make a UC Claim?

Not sure if you saw the bit I added about housing benefit/UC, but he'll need to claim housing costs from somewhere. You may need to check to see if he  can stay on the legacy benefits. Does he have you as appointee?

Yes I am his appointee... I just can't see how he can afford the miscellaneous outgoings if he only has his ESA..

As he is in Supported Living accommodation he will keep both components of his PIP.
He will also be entitled to the Severe Disability Premium with his ESA as he is treated as living alone and no one claims Carer's Allowance for him.
Once he moves in (and you end your CA claim) you should contact ESA and let them know of his change of circumstances and ask for a form to claim the SDP.

pmlindyloo, what about the housing costs - would that be HB or UC?

Housing Benefit.  It is one of the exemptions where housing benefit can be claimed.

Also worth checking if he would be entitled to the council tax severe mental impairment disregard.
