Just to be clear you would need to claim the SDP once the carers allowance has stopped BEFORE you make the claim for housing benefit. If you don't do this then he will be unable to claim housing benefit.

I don't believe this is true. If you live in Supported Housing then you do not have to have a SDP to claim HB. Even if you were claiming UC your housing costs would be met through HB and not through the housing element of UC. Thanks, totally forgot that those living in support living can't claim UC for housing.
