Cynergy Bank login from March 14 2020

More details on https://www.cynergybank.co.uk/authenticator
I followed the Cynergy guide for setting up the authenticator. It took a couple of minutes to set things up, everything worked like a dream.

I'd need to access the online banking on the phone, and I clearly can't scan the code on the phone's screen with the same phone's camera, so I'd try to get the Digipass thing.

I've requested a digipass to be sent to me via a secure message in my online banking

Did you read the text on that page?

I don’t have a smartphone or tablet– will I still be able to use Online Banking?

Yes, if you don’t have a smartphone or tablet you will need the new, upgraded version of our Digipass®.

It’s a small device, about the size of a large matchbox, that you can use instead of our app to Authenticate when using Online Banking.

You can order from our Customer Service team – we’ll update this page when it’s available to order – please don’t request one yet

They are now available to order, over the phone - 0345 850 5555. They say they've extended their hours - 8am-8pm Mon-Fri, 9-5 Sat, and their busiest are 9-11, 12-2 M-F. I didn't have to wait long (2 minutes, through the "press 1", wait for a new ring  and answer etc. rigmarole?) at about 4:30 this afternoon.

So they didn't update that page as they promised. :/

I hadn't even considered this issue, but it's going to cause me much annoyance.  I really don't want a "Digipass" either.  I travel a lot, and it's another annoying thing to carry everywhere.

I don't know why they can't just use a standard 2FA app, like Google Authenticator or Authy?

Because everyone thought they could reinvent a better wheel.

I phoned up on 21st Feb and ordered the new Digipass. At the same time I told the call handler that the page needs updating as it's still showing "please don’t request one yet", he thanked me and said he will let the relevant department know.
It's still not been updated so I messaged them earlier to tell them that page needs updating.

    Edit:
28th Feb - A week after ordering it I received my new Digipass today, you need to fit the 2x AAA batteries that come with it in the box..

Edit: 15th March - I had to register it today to use online banking! All straight forward to register and use the device, you turn it on and point the camera at the on screen image, it generates the registration code that you enter on the online banking screen. It then asks if registration was successful, if you select 'yes' it then displays another image in online banking that you need to scan, the digipass then generates the 2nd code that you enter to access your account.
Once you have registered your digipass and go to log in - you just scan the online image once and the digipass generates a code that you enter to access your online banking.

I tried do download the app, only to find my phone, very basic, cannot take it. It has been accepted by my wife's IPad. As I do pretty well all on the account, it seems very inconvenient to customers, especially to elderly like us. My daughter and her son, who helped us didn't find it that easy either. TBH one muses if they don't want your money and , when they have it don't want to give it back. :open_mouth:
It's either a new phone then, take our money out, or get a digipass.
I read somewhere on the Cynergy site that they cost. Do they now this cumbersome procedure is comming shortly?

You could give Cynergy Bank a call on: 02082 677 343 and ask them to post you out a new Digipass (it is provided free of charge) - that's what I did and received my new Digipass in the post within 7 days from calling them.
