It’s not the zombie apocalypse but they have to roll out containment measures.  Things like banning mass gatherings.  Even if the death rate is 2% or whatever it’s not just that, it’s that the strain on the NHS from the cases that need hospitalisation will be a lot.  The spread needs kept to  minimum

Well that was a good prediction, not. DOW opened 300 points up.

That was the first gap fill.
There's gaps at 26,890 and 28,892 to fill as well, but not today!

    FTSE 100 up over 2pc.
This is even more worrying. Shows that many investors still don't understand what we are dealing with

Central banks assurances are meaningless. It's not in their power to fix this one

Well yes they can't fix the virus but they can certainly help prop up economies for a bit until it all goes away - unless it doesn't

I'm not sure that the stuff they do to prop up economies when there's a financial crisis will do much when you have a virus crisis. I think the uncertainties for business and people are outside the usual.

Recessions have casaulties. Plenty of zombie companies kept afloat by a decade of low interest rates. Lack of revenue is irreplaceable.

There will presumably come a point where, rather than quarantining people who become infected, it will make more sense to quarantine those who are at high risk of a severe outcome and letting those who are at low risk get on with their lives.
  • What's causing the US indexes to rally today? BBC news website shows Dow Jones up over 5% today. & The other two up over 4% (at the moment).
