In my town I have bp and Esso only. They charge the same and my nearest supermarket fuel is 22 mile round trip. Tesco are one pence cheaper than Esso after pecker discount at Esso current prices so it's a no brainer to pay just 45p more for my 45 litre tank, it would cost more than that to do a 22 mile round trip to the tesco supermarket.Supersonos said:
I would imagine Esso etc. pay them a commission. It's just a loyalty card - people think they're getting a bargain so go out of their way to use Esso without thinking about how it would actually still be cheaper buying the fuel from a rival petrol station.Dr_Crypto said:How does fuelpecker make its money?0 -
In my home town, the supermarkets are the most expensive place to get fuel...1

I've been using the Fuelpecker card for a few weeks now and it works great. It gives me 4p off a litre of diesel at Esso. As my local supermarket is only 2p a litre cheaper than the local Esso garage, it's cheaper for me to fill up at Esso, thereby saving another 2p a litre over what I would pay at the supermarket. Every little helps!

If you think branded fuel is better than supermarket because of the additives it’s probably worth going for it even if still a couple of pence dearer. Honest John is a fan of the branded super unleaded/diesel.0

I believe it works by Fuelpecker, the company, getting drivers to sign up and appear as if they are fleet vehicles for them. I would then think they would be able to claim the VAT back on all purchases, and give you a break in the cost. Being its an Esso card, there could be a discount on top. However, VAT claiming is possible, not sure about the legality to be fair. I only came to this conclusion as I recently signed up myself, and I can see that Fuelpecker is printed on the card, rather than my name.Dr_Crypto said:How does fuelpecker make its money?0 -
I use it and it works really well. Just down the road from where I have been working there is a Tesco and ESSO filling stations. As they are so close together the ESSO station tends to track a 1p more than Tesco. Knock off the 4p discount I get with the Fuelpecker card and its a lot cheaper. You simply pay for your fuel using the card and they take the money from your bank 2 days later. Happy Days!
I got mine through Discounts for teachers website but it doesn't seem to be on there anymore.0 -
Had the card for a while now, but today the card was refused to be accepted at a Shell forecourt, they weren't happy about it carrying the Esso logo apparently and just flatly refused to let me use it for the transaction. I've contacted Fuelpecker as they do say its accepted at all Shell outlets, but my experience would tend to differ. I found this old thread whilst doing a search to see if anybody else had experienced a similar refusal?.

I've seen various comments about the amount of money you get off. Is that dependent on the particular garage, or is it unique to an individual member?A big believer in karma, you get what you give :A
