    Dear XXXXXXXXX

We’ve been working hard on our new version of Darlingtonline, and we are excited to announce the new version will launch on Tuesday 25 July!

When the new version launches, you will need to re-register for it, and you will not be able to access the current version or use your current Darlingtonline log-in details.

    Power of Attorneys
Unfortunately, the new version of Darlingtonline will be unavailable to any appointed Power of Attorneys. After Tuesday 25 July you will need to come into branch or contact us via telephone to manage the account. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

    Secure messages
Once we have moved over to the new version, you will no longer have access to your secure message history. Please print or copy any secure messages you want to keep a record of prior to Tuesday 25 July.

The new version of Darlingtonline will also have a secure messaging facility, ensuring you still have a quick and easy way to contact us.

Please note, we have sent this message to both your registered email address and securely to your Darlingtonline account.

    Kind regards,
    Darlington Building Society

That's really rubbish. I suspect many PoAs will not live locally, so forcing them to go into a branch or phone up for everything is a major PITA when you have all the other issues a PoA has to deal with.

Re the Beehive/Notts 6% accounts, I know no withdrawals are allowed, but what if one closes the accounts - will interest still be paid or is there a penalty?

The Notts RS have historically been very tough to close before the end of term.

Extreme hardship, extreme change of circumstances (house move etc) only in my experience

Has anyone any experience of attempting to close the account when they've already made the allowed 'one withdrawal per account year'?

    Thanks in advance

I don't know about that account but check the T&Cs. Principality have an account with a limit of two withdrawals per year and their small print says that closing the account counts as a withdrawal and if you have already done two then you can't close the account until the next account year!

Not quite sure how they can insist on that but there you go.

It looks like if you make more than one withdrawal from their current (1 year) regular saver, then it simply reverts to a standard easy access savings account so yours might be the same and if it is, then it would follow that you can also close your account without any issues.

"The Regular Saver allows one withdrawal to be made in the term. If more than one withdrawal is required in the anniversary year, we will transfer your balance to an access account and the relevant terms and conditions and interest rate will apply."

You'd need to check your own account T&Cs to be sure though (it should be clearly stated).

The beehive one specifically says cannot close before term, only in very exceptional circumstances.

'You can close your account at any time without notice or penalty'

I only have a leaflet on this specific account so can't link to it.
