New Tipton  RS - Would a kind forumite who calls Tipton on Monday let us know if a phone call avoids having to post id and address documents.
I've requested that they ring me on Monday morning due to them not having a freephone number. If they do ring me I'll of course update this thread with this information, though I imagine someone else will get through to them before I receive a call from them.
  • Anyone else got a message from Tipton app saying 'To proceed with your application we need to confirm your identity and address'? Frustrating to say the least - was hoping to get a June deposit in
Yes, me just now on trying to apply through the app!
    Same here, via the app.

I've opened quite a number of account this year and this is the very first where I've had to have my identity checked this way — startling considering they offer an app!
  • Apologies if it's been mentioned already but according to moneyfacts Tipton and Cosley BS will launch a 5.5% regular saver tomorrow. It's branch/post opening, allows deposits of £50-£500/mth.

They'll also be launching an app version at the same rate.
I looked at the info. It says you can't withdraw, but I can't see anything about closure. Do you know if closure is permitted?
Yes, but only within the first 14 days, it seems.

4.5% regular savers  keep or close?  -  Halifax, Bank of Scotland etc.  Are these fixed or variable?   Managed to  get the Newcastle Building Society account @ 4.3%, so thinking these won't be worth having any more.  Do you have to keep them open the full year?  Do you lose interest if closed early?  Can you pay in a smaller amount, maybe £50?  Any thoughts, would love to hear before I start the monthly deposits
Typically confused and asking for advice

IMO Keep, unless you want to open at a higher rate.
    Fixed
No - can close at any time. Lloyds and BoS have a clause against reopening if opened one in the past month, but IT systems don’t enforce it.
No interest penalty - interest paid in full upon closure
You can even stop payments entirely I think. If you decide to pay in, min payment is £25 (someone please verify this, I don’t have the old documentation anymore).

There is a method to ‘renew’ and reopen at a higher rate (but starting again from £0) - hopefully someone can link you to this.

    EDIT - found it - https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/comment/79879297/#Comment_79879297
