  • I’ve just realised that this month’s prize draw was the last one for the YBS make me a saver account so I’ve just gone and cancelled my standing order accordingly. Not a single prize won 👎.

Has anyone drained their account / closed it yet? Is it worth keeping open?

I emptied it a while back when the interest rate became uncompetitive. Left £1 in it because interest rate is variable and could go up. My OH and I have never been lucky with any of these prize winning accounts.
  • Posted my Hinckley & Rugby 30 day notice regular saver application yesterday at 9am. At 2pm today they called me to confirm the account opening. Unbelievable.......after weeks of postal delays my H & R letter arrives in less than 17 hours.

If you posted it at 9am yesterday, for it to arrive "in less than 17 hours" it would have to have been delivered before 2 o'clock this morning.

I seriously doubt that it was.
Yes I wondered when someone might comment on that but things are never quite as they seem.......my maths were very bad but it is actually far better than was initially thought. Now, follow the story......When posted at just after 9am on Monday, I had missed the single collection from that post box for that day. So, I assume the box was next emptied at 9am on the Tuesday, today. I received the call from H & R at exactly 2.14 pm today...... Just under 5.5hours......almost unbelievable  !

If a single 9am collection time is stated, this (generally) means that is the earliest that the box post box will be collected, usually by a postie while on their delivery round.

As such, you would have made Mondays collection. The way RM operate now, you won't get a letter posted and delivered in such a short time.
  • Still it's very impressive timing though and not something I was expecting. However it doesn't change my negative opinion of the postal strike.

According to Moneyfacts, Yorkshire Building Society are launching their Christmas 2023 Regular Saver, paying 4.50%.

The account matures on 31st October 2023.  It reverts into an Access Saver on maturity.

You can pay in between £1 - £300 per month.  The maximum investment is £3,000.

The account must be opened in branch or via the post.  Once opened the account can be managed online, via the branch or post.

They will also be launching their Christmas 2023 Regular E-Saver, which will be available to open and operate online.

Moneyfacts states that one withdrawal is permitted per account year.

Does anyone know if you can open both versions?

It says one account per person but they seem to be different accounts?
