I'm intending sending a cheque for £10 as an opener and transferring the rest online. Are you trying for a November opening? Is that remotely likely?subjecttocontract said:Monmouthshire B/Soc Christmas regular saver........just filling in the application form & about to include a cheque for £200.
Can anyone help ?
1. Who do I make the cheque payable to ?
2. Do I need to include any ID ?I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. When I opened mine I sent the application form off at about 4:30pm one Friday evening. The account was opened on the Monday and I received my passbook on the Tuesday so you stand a good chance of a November opening. I used a prepaid envelope they sent me, which had a first class stamp on it. The main thing that will be against you is that the postmen have been on strike yesterday and today so there will be a lot of delayed post in the system, which will inevitably lead to delays.silvercar said:

I'm just trying to open an account......it'll be open when it's open, I have no control over that. At around a max of £71 in interest it's not something I can get very excited about.silvercar said:

The new Monmouthshire regular savers - on maturity will they have to send a cheque or do they still allow faster payments despite them being postal accounts?0

You prompted me to check through my letters from them - I've found a 2nd class one, it has 'Business Reply' in top left corner and the actual postal address is 13 John Frost Square, Newport - anyone know if this would be ok to use?Bridlington1 said:

Monmouthshire Xmas Saver Bond Issue 5 - I used an old 2nd class Business reply envelope with my application form to the above address. Too soon to confirm, but it shoudn`t be a problem, except it will take one or two days more than a First Class letter. With regards to maturity, MonBS notify you a few weeks before and you go online and specify what you want done and one of the options is an automatic faster payment to your nominated bank account.3

I opened the Monmouthshire Xmas Saver and their 3.75% Monthly Saver in branch this morning. I was half expecting there to be loads of people coming in asking to open an account, but I only noticed 2 other people coming in the whole time I was there (about 45 minutes)! I guess those of us on here are a rarer breed than I thought, and most people don't really pay attention to new high rate savings accounts that get announced

They definitely do offer faster payment to your registered current account. You need to send them yet another form to request registration. This is a one-off, will be used for all your MMBS accounts, and you can send the form any time you like. The sooner the better, clearly.where_are_we said:With regards to maturity, MonBS notify you a few weeks before and you go online and specify what you want done and one of the options is an automatic faster payment to your nominated bank account.
As an aside, they seem to be processing the maturity payments manually as they forgot to FP the matured funds of my most recent RS until I reminded them. The compensation for that oversight was more than the interest on the RS
