  • The way round this could be to say something along the lines of:
you may have a maximum of 3 regular savers in your name, joint and/or sole but the maximum monthly deposit you may have across all regular savers in your name is £750.

Darlington BS 'Special Occasion Saver' - now 'Regular Monthly Saver'
Just updated my earlier post to say that the Darlington BS have now updated their website again since my earlier post.
It appears the 'Special Occasion Saver' is no more. It has been superseeded (or re-named) by the 'Regular Monthly Saver Account' with the new t&c's. (one account only, max £750 per month, max balance £30k).
However as yet, the Special Occasion Saver does not apear in their closed account part of their website.
So am not fully sure if this is just a simple re-name of the SOS account with new t&c's, or a new account altogether and the Special Occasion Saver will be listed under their closed accounts eventually.
Also, if it is a new account, whether one can hold (and pay into) 3 Special Occasion Saver accounts at £250 per month AND also open a 'Regular Monthly Saver' account and pay in £750 per month concurrently.

    Edit 0930hrs.
The 'Special Occasions Saver' account is now listed in the 'Closed Accounts' section of the Darlington BS Website:
So, it would appear that the 'Regular Monthly Saver Account' is a brand new account.

Edit 0940hrs - And the Special Occasions Saver has now been removed from their 'Closed Accounts' section of the website.
    What are they doing?

The supposedly variable Yorkshire BS loyalty regular saver is staying at 5% yet again. Most other YBS variable accounts are going up by 0.3%.

It's market leading along with NatWest/RBS, with a higher pay in. Whilst it would be nice they have no need to change it

  • I have a High Days and Holidays saver from a while ago which I still pay into, but now it seems to be lagging the interest fates of the above Special Occasion Savings account and the new regular saver.
Time to move on to the new account

Well, I went into my local Darlington BS branch this morning and completed the forms etc and deposited £750 to open the new Regular Monthly Saver account. Just awaiting the passbook to be issued now.
The cashier was a little unsure as to whether I could open it or not (I have 3 x active Special Occasion Saver Accounts), however her senior colleague said yes I could as the SOS is now classed as a 'Closed Issue' accout.
So, the answer seems to be yes.
  • The downside of this new Regular Monthly Saver account seems to be a maximum balance of £30,000. And I cannot see the Special Occasion Saver listed as a closed account or anywhere on the site.
