I haven't received any letter yet, and I have no maturity options online. It seems they are processing these accounts in batches. No worries, as there is still plenty of time

Planning to hit a branch on Saturday and make the initial deposit as cash, in the hope it'll count as October's deposit.

If you open it today and send your £300 by FP, your deposit will be credited today. Though they might have a cut-off at some stage before 5pm or so.
    Cambridge BS

If you open the account on the phone they can take the first deposit as a debit card payment.  Mine appeared in the account (viewed online) before the end of the phone call.

Cambridge BS: Went to branch earlier today, with my already-completed and printed application form and £250 in cash. Account opened and deposit taken in under 10 minutes, and I left clutching my rather fetching passbook. The member of staff confirmed that the cash deposit would count as October's, and the next £250 could be deposited on 1st November.

As an aside, the member of staff I spoke to said that the uptake of these new accounts has been slower than they expected.

If they changed this part of the opening criteria, allowing online applications, one suspects that wouldn't be a problem.

Monmouthshire have now released Christmas Saver Bond issue 4 paying 1.1% maturing 311022 with a maximum monthly payment of £1000.

As previously said about Monmouthshire although it says only available in England and Wales they do accept applications from Scottish savers.

The offers from Monmouthshire (1.1% variable), Yorkshire (1% variable), and Principality (1.05% fixed) are not very attractive. Particularly when compared with fixed rate bonds (charter pays 1.25% for 1 year). I wonder what Chorley will offer this year?

There appears to be a dichotomy of rates from building societies with Cambridge, Skipton, and even TSB offering better rates.
I shall be ignoring interest rates under 1.5% as we move towards the new financial year.  I have started reducing my monthly payments to the minimum into Loughborough, ESBS, Mansfield and SRBS long term regular savers.

The financial predictions indicate a probable rise in bank rate in the next 3 months, possibly even this week.

    Thoughts?

Strange they have put Christmas Saver just under Our Savings Bonds rather than  the general savings. They are still processing the matured Christmas Savers and I have been told all interest will be backdated

Anyone still waiting for their Chorley maturity money?

Was sent on  31/10 by BACS apparently.

Me.  But awaiting a few maturity funds from other building societies today but probably not arrive until late in the day.  You state BACS that takes longer than faster payment interesting to see when it will arrive.

  • Descrabled surely it is better to have your savings in a regular saver paying 1% than an easy access account paying far less?

My maths is not great but when you can get easy access at 0.60% from the likes of Saga compared to 1% RS can’t be much in it.

I have had dozens of RS but now as they come to and end, I’m putting my cash elsewhere for now.

Just put a load into a 0.86% for six months plus an extra £20 from Raisin that’s got to be competitive to a 1% RS?

Yes I do understand some can’t find lump sum cash to save in one go but if you have the money six months is no time to wait.
