I have downloaded the Tipton app and applied for the RS. All opened and been told to await my user ID in the post. FYI I’ve just now had a text message saying their system is undergoing maintenance and to try again later ...
How did you manage to open a regular saver through the app. Surely you need the code being sent through post to access app regular saver

It can be opened and then a code is sent through the post to activate the account.  Or so it seems!  I've had a text to say that my account is open.

No-one knows if this is a separate account to the earlier one or just the same one accessed a different way.  Time will tell.

Tipton:  I believe it's a different account, given the different maturity dates. It looks to me as if by launching two extremely similar products that require different channels to open (branch/post versus app), the Tipton is doing a marketing test to see how relatively successful (or not) is the new app in attracting deposits.

I have no easy way I can see of investigating this new account through the app.

Having downloaded the app yesterday as an existing member (entered an account number) my app is sat waiting for the postal 'Unique ID number'.

Unless I'm going mad it seems a little counterintuitive that new members had the option to apply for this account before existing ones.

Although I have 3 Principality RSs the only letter I've had from them was in June giving me my online activation code. No 'Thank you for opening...' or anything else. I find it odd.

Online activation code letter also had "thank you for applying" for 1st RS  and account number in it. Also "savings statement" letter in April/May usefully listing 19-20 interest and RS maturity letter recently. I don`t think we have had confirmation of recently opened R23 or Xmas21RS yet but we shred all letters once read so my memory may be incorrect! We always request not to have any marketing by any media.

Tipton BS has just launched another new fixed rate RS paying 1.35%. This one is said to be available only through the new Tipton app (see Speculator's post above), and it has a different maturity date to the 'chequebook' RS product that Tipton launched yesterday (Dec 2021 versus Feb 2022). But frankly I don't yet know if it's permitted to have both of these, or even (for those of us with an existing Tipton RS maturing Jan 2021) either of them.

The RS world seems suddenly to be getting more complicated, even as it also gets less lucrative ...

Tried to open this account - the app needs a county, even though I select my address from the menu it doesn't recognise 'Argyll' nor will it accept 'Argyll & Bute' or 'Argyll and Bute'.
I live in London, eventually I found putting greater London seemed to be accepted. A bit poor it doesn't show a list.

I am just opening the account to fund from early next year, I fear by the time my other accounts mature there will be no "decent" savings account left! I will dump £10 in it for now.

The drop down selection gave my address and populated the fields, then wouldn't accept Argyll, which it had put in!  However, the great customer service adviser made up for the IT dept!

E-mail from HSBC this morning re Regular Saver.  'Enjoy our highest savings rate' of.... 1%.  'Rates correct as at 24 November 2020.'  Inevitable, but gives people a few more days to apply - fortunately mine expired/renewed at the start of the month.
Perhaps there's hope for the 2.75% for a while longer!! Hoping at least to 28th when mine matures 😂

It looks as if I have to use Screen Lock if I ever want to use the Tipton app, which is a nuisance. I don't want to keep deleting it or bypassing it with a PIN every time I want to use my phone for anything else.
  • Tipton.  I opened the account via the app and also sent in the paper one plus cheque via the link.  As part of an answer to an email I sent their customer service, they confirmed that both accounts have been opened :-)   Now waiting for my code to view them both on the app.

    Tipton
Mobile app received by post and app registration went fine.

Only a legacy account visible on there.

Successfully applied for new 'app only' 1.35% account (ends 31/12/21) and took note of sort code, account number and reference.

After application a new 1.35% zero balance account now showing but  with an end date of 31/1/22 and with a reference the same as the one above.

I'm confused and beginning to think we should take these Tipton RS discussions away from this thread to stop annoying others not interested.

Your new Tipton postal account has a maturity date of 31/1/22?

The postal one I applied for has a date of 28/2/22...
