Interestingly, I see from its website that Monmouthshire BS has now restricted its Regular Saver Bond Issue 4 (much discussed on this thread lately) to face-to-face, in branch applications only.  Implicitly this small BS wasn't geared up to handle the sheer numbers.  It's not the first time they've done that:  if you're not local to the MonBS, sometimes you need to be quick!
This for me emphasises, if even emphasis was needed, how very useful the MSE Savings and Investment threads are to get into these things early.
Cause or effect: arguably it's prominence on MSE that causes small players to be overwhelmed and have to stem the flow....
  • Saves them advertising fees though

Just as a matter of interest - the MBS site has "Only one account per person is allowed or two joint accounts may be opened, per couple."
Is this unusual? Each half of a couple can have a joint account each... or am I reading it wrong?
  • One single account each or 2 joint accounts either way only 2 accounts. Some couples may prefer everything to be joint

  • It is a bit disconcerting that the Saver Plus Issue 3 opened in April shows an interest rate of .2% and no mention of the fixed bonus of 1% until 31/3/21. It would be nice to know for certain that the interest rate is 1.2% so long as T&Cs are met!
Agreed. Fortunately, Monmouthshire BS has now updated the table of 'Previous Interest Rates' on its website to indicate that the effective interest rates (including annual bonus) on both the legacy Saver Plus 3 and Christmas Saver 2 accounts currently remain at 1.20% providing T&Cs are met.

I've won my cat-and-mouse game with Monmouthshire! After they had twice returned my opening bank transfer, and deleted the addition of the account to online banking, it was finally third time lucky. The account is now finally showing as funded, as of August 28.
I have also won my cat and mouse game with Monmouthshire today as well

Regarding MBS - Opened on August 22nd and it took 10 days it took for paperwork to arrive, now signed and returned with a cheque. I also sent a letter asking for the maturity date to be confirmed by mail or messaging. I have now twice added the new account number. I also put a message on twitter about the length of time but I have had no response. In the meantime Cambridge sent me a thank you letter for opening an account.

Probably put you back to the bottom of the pile for processing!!! Lol
I really don't understand the problem, it will take as long as it takes and if you don't like it then don't fund it and good luck searching for another provider paying 1.5%!!!!  Its really not difficult to understand, they've put out a market leading product and have had a huge response that will take a while to process so just deal with it!!

I'm on Day 12 since application, and still no paperwork received.
I sent them a secure message yesterday asking for confirmation they had received my online application, but no reply as yet.
Edit: Just logged in to find a message saying they have no record of my application! I referred to my screen captures and gave them the exact date and time the application was submitted, now waiting to see what happens.

Good luck with that - We applied on 23/8, received signature forms one on 27/8 and one on 29/8, signature plus opening cheque for £250 each posted back on day received and both cheques deposited on 3/9 and accounts showing up online.
Congatulations to those who got deposits in before the end of the month.
