Bankruptcy error on account- please help!!

Options
Hi everyone
im hoping someone can help shed some light on a very stressful situation!
we realised this morning that our cards weren’t working so I contacted the bank. We bank with tsb and have a joint account and a personal account each. My partners account is showing that he is in bankruptcy and the joint account and his personal one have been frozen. We went to our branch when we got no joy on the phone and they struggled to figure out what was going on! We have no debts and recently bought our first home.
We have left it in the hands of a very nice lady at the branch who is looking into it and has an email address of somebody in bankruptcy.
I am having a mini meltdown at the moment thinking we are going to lose our home! Surely this has to be some kind of bank error?!?
Any similar experiences or advice would be much welcome!xx

What exactly do you mean when you say "My partners account is showing that he is in bankruptcy"?  (Do you mean you have checked your partners three credit files and there is an incorrect bankruptcy recorded?)

  • When the bank looked at his accounts it says ‘client is in bankruptcy’ and accounts are locked
  • What exactly do you mean when you say "My partners account is showing that he is in bankruptcy"?  (Do you mean you have checked your partners three credit files and there is an incorrect bankruptcy recorded?)
His credit file is clean! We have recently been approved for a mortgage in just his name- no outstanding debts other than a couple of hundred pounds on a credit card and the mortgage
  • Where is the bankruptcy data recorded though?  I think they must be saying that something in your partners three credit files is spooking them.  Has your partner checked their three credit files to make sure the data recorded is correct?

Your partner still needs to check their three credit files, as new data may have been added since the mortgage application...
Another possibility is a CIFAS marker....

  • The bank seemed clueless as to where this has come from! Whilst we were in branch she called several departments that were unable to shed any light on why the account had been blocked and where the bankruptcy note had originated from! He has a clear score account and there’s nothing showing on there- where else would he need to check?
apologies if I sound clueless but I genuinely am!😊😢

In addition to ClearScore (Equifax), your partner needs to check their file with:
    MSE Credit Club (Experian)
    and
    CreditKarma (TransUnion)

    Keep the thread updated.
  • Credit files all look fine with scores of around 700-775. I am hoping it’s a simple bank error and it’s easily solved! At the moment I am sick with worry 😥

Forget about the credit scores, as they are irrelevant.  It is the data recorded in your partners three credit files that needs to be checked for accuracy.

Hopefully you are correct though, and it is a bank error...
