So the morning has gone. I think I might have unknowingly joined Round in a HHC. Bathroom cleaned and laundry stuff done, including stripping DD’s bedding while she wasn’t on it. She has gone for yet another trial shift. Any spare FL vibes would be welcome for this one to turn into a job for her.
DH is painting his shelves. Again. It is job avoidance for doing what really needs doing. Also it stops me from getting into the room and sorting out the stashed carp. 😡
I have to pick DD later, but should really try to do something off the paperwork list. I didn’t even dent the surface of it yesterday, so must do better today. I’d like to take a wander to the allotment to see what is still standing but it’s so blustery that I don’t think it would be a good idea.6 -
Me again
Bathroom scrubbed top to bottom
upstairs bins emptied
brushed fluffy cat
restored my office to its rightful place after 2 weeks working in the dining room, took the opportunity to degibble my desk and give the whole room a thorough clean
bedroom hoovered and dusted
top flight of stairs hoovered
stopping for a break and a bite to eat now, another progress report later x6 -
pigpen said:HB.. my house is probably worse!! This house was floor to ceiling in crap and rubbish when we bought it too.. and under the dirt the floorboards were rotten and the filth was unreal.. and only 1 person living here so no excuse for all the mess.. it's not that hard to clean after yourself surely? I have 11 people living here so I know it is overcrowded and it will be hard work because there is more stuff than the walls can handle.. but it is very much too much!Piggers, I doubt it. I've honestly never seen anything like it. The outside loo had a cake 1" thick of !!!!!! on it and in it, with 2" around the base. The bathroom loo has the same cake around it half an inch thick, and it leaks. I doubt very, very much your house is worse than that. The ex-businessman who got credit crunched was clinically depressed to the point that he didn't flush the loo for months inside the house, or years outside the house. Even the scaffolder was boking at the suggestion he pee in there. It's the worst house I have ever seen, with ivy growing through the walls from the outside in through the bedroom walls. I disposed of a mummified rat's body from just outside the back door in the yard, and Layla found a live rat in one of the bags of rubbish that OH had bundled up and sealed. If he'd known it was there he wouldn't have gone into that room, much less touched anything in there, which is what the ex-businessman had clearly decided. There are spiders everywhere. The mouse droppings in the bottom kitchen drawer amoungst a pile of invoices and unopened post from 2005 clearly indicated that he also thought they were will in residence there. The rat trap under the kitchen table told the rest of the story.I'm using a long-handled brush to bring down the cobwebs because of the high ceilings, and then scraping the muck off the paintwork before washing it down. The kitchen took two days and I didn't even open most of the cupboard doors after I tried one and found a 2" layer of what looked like compost (hint, it wasn't compost). All the units apart from the sink have now been removed and taken to the tip because not a single thing was salvageable. Even the sink unit had rotted out the base and the middle support has rotted out completely (as in missing) to a height of 6".Even though there is going to be a lot of plaster hacked off this week, that's clean dirt. No-one could replaster those walls without cleaning off the skirting boards first because of the contamination the filth would cause on the new plaster. Even if the plasterer removes the skirting boards beforehand, someone is going to have to clean them before putting them back - they're filthy but mostly still sound.I'm also cleaning it because it revolts me so much I no-one could expect anyone to work in that filth to make the house habitable again.A few weeks ago I managed to get myself in to the position in our house where I could literally do 15 minutes a day and the place looked absolutely fine. A week of not doing anything at all except cooking and washing up means that it's now a scruffy tip. Fortunately we've got no-one staying here this week so I can get back on top of it while doing a couple of hours a day next door. I simply don't have the stamina to do any more than that.
Better is good enough.9 -
Round 2 done - I got wet on the dog walk!
DS is in the shower, so I am taking the opportunity to have a cuppa and make the next list.
Round 3
clean sink
clean bath
clean shower
clean windowsill
empty cupboard & chuck what needs chucking
clean cupboard & refill
That will take quite a while I think!
Well done HB on the house clearing. It sounds horrendous, but will be worth it in the end.8 -
Wow HoneyBear...it just goes to show that, no matter how the house looks from the outside anything could be going on inside...hope you stay safe in there and there are no bugs lurking. And I don't mean the kind you can see.
Well, after yesterday's marathan cooking session I found a quick and easy recipe to try today courtesy of Two Chubby Cubs.
I have strippe dmy bed because leaving it unmade for the last two days with the vague notion that I would change it had no effect; it's airing (again) and I'' make it with fresh linen later. All laundry ironed and also airing.Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily DickinsonJanice 1964-2016
Thank you Honey Bear9 -
Bag of books taken to Dad's for him to read before they are taken to cs.
Every little helps

Honeybear, I think you need rubber gloves / goggles / breathing mask to deal with that lot.Tip run done, caused by emptying the first loft.................. although it was done a few years ago, this time it needs to be fullly empty and stay that way for the move, one more loft to go.Went though my old school trunk, loads of old stuff in there, brought back some good memories of later teen / early 20's life
threw a lot of it all out.
Cupboard under the stairs also sorted and boxes / labelled up....................Dinner is roasting, plus a crumble is cooking. (also have to empty the freezer, so we are eating freezer food for the next few weeks!! )Breast Cancer Now 100 miles October 2022 100 / 100miles

Round round 3 almost complete. I will clean the inside of the shower later when I’m in it! I managed to chuck out a LOT of stuff from the cupboard. Luckily DD2 popped home just at the right time (she had a lot of face washes, etc. in there) to authorise disposal. DH also had countless used razors - why can’t anyone just throw things away!! 😡 It is tidy and sparkly now. This frog has well and truly been eaten! 🐸 Towels, bathmat and cleaning cloths are swishing on a hot wash.
DS has tidied the cupboard containing the wii games, whilst looking for a dvd he wanted to watch that wasn’t in its case (Finding Nemo - still not found it). It looks a lot better 😁
Well, that is enough cleaning for one day, maybe I will look at some paperwork now....8 -
So I haven't done any paperwork, as DH decided whilst I was out that he would commandeer the laptop and clear some of his. I picked up DD from her trial shift - she is back again next weekend, so hopefully this is paid employment. Thank you for the FL vibes that seem to have worked their magic.
I took my cuppa into the greenhouse to take a peek at my seedlings, now that the wind has died down a bit. I’ve found that the bowl of hyacinths had started to flower so I’ve brought them indoors as a reminder that spring is on its way.
I ought to make a cake, but quite frankly I cba.
HB - well done, but it sounds horrendous. You are a far braver woman than me.7 -
