They are certainly not universally love by all.
    Indeed.

I've been a customer for over 7 years and until December had no issues.
My Christmas delivery was brought to my home by the most ignorant, rude driver I have ever encountered who caused substantial damage to my garden and I'm fairly sure would not have mentioned it had I not seen him do it on CCTV.  It took days and a lot of chasing to get an actual apology from Ocado and I had to ask for a refund of the £10 Christmas delivery fee.

It's now February and I'm still no closer to getting the damage fixed as Ocado's insurance can't find anyone to work on it.  I've now been asked to obtain quotes myself to get it sorted.

So forgive me if I don't join the Ocado love in at this moment in time.

I'm afraid you don't understand very much about Ocado or even online food shopping.
Online shopping is a small proportion of the grocery market in the UK at present. Ocado is an award-winning ( and operates only online ) which is forward-looking to a future when online shopping will be a much larger proportion of the market. And they are doing very well indeed ( just look at their share price more than doubling between 2018 and today). They never "used" Waitrose as you claim-----they had an agreement to sell some Waitrose products as well as many others-----and Waitrose remained a competitor in the online marketing and delivery of food. Now Ocado has a 50-50 mutual agreement with M&S Food, and of course M&S are not a competitor in the delivery sector.
And Ocado has NEVER  operated in Scotland-----it operates in England only, claiming nevertheless to be able to deliver to 75% of all households in BRITAIN  (remember that only 8% of British households are in Scotland ). Ocado is still expanding and may cover Scotland at some stage, perhaps when Scotland catches up with the modern trend towards an increasing demand for online food shopping and delivery.
As mentioned among all the unanimously  favourable postings on this thread, Ocado are the FUTURE, as well as -----where they currently operate------the best online food delivery company. The quality of their foodstuffs is the finest anyone can find online ( as their awards declare every year)-----and the addition of the longstanding and outstanding M&S Food will only enhance that.
I disagree. Online grocery shopping has been around for ages. Many people like to visit the shop and browse, and since supermarkets tend to be local and have good parking, there's not the disincentives of town/city centre shopping. Often price is a key factor, and Ocado can't compete. Meanwhile Ocado are loss making and don't have any unique selling point.

Why in that case has Ocado's share price gone from 500 in 2018 to 1297 lately ???
I think you may be mistaken and backward-looking. The days of putting up with screaming kids running around, trollies that have faulty wheels and impossible queues to check out are disappearing . Ocado is THE FUTURE.

Nothing, because they don't know how to quote properly.
Same reason any tech company gets people excited for a while (see also Uber, when they make massive losses and have very little unique technology). There will always be a premium market for groceries, but it's very much a niche market when for most people price is the key factor.

Did I really want to repeat all this , just to make a point in reply to an annoying remark-----which is why I left it hidden when originally posting ?????????

    alarmingly.......what ?  :p
Yes, all the staff are here with me and send their best wishes, Tony ;) .
But they are always particularly bemused by the Thumbs of this world, the smart ones who are so .........
BTW, Ocado refund the difference in price if any of their products were more expensive than at Tesco on the day of delivery ( so they cater for the tom thumbs who are so desperate about taking only price into account------personally, I like quality ). Not bad for a niche. And you really have to read about Ocado's unique systems which are being bought up at large costs by supermarket giants in very many countries. The future is always a hard thing for some folk to envisage.........and yet it still comes.
Keep up the good work Ocado----and can't wait for the 50-50 link with M&SFood by the autumn ( another unique coup for a company that has nothing unique and has more than doubled its very high share price in just the past 18 months ).

I'm surprised you manage to order anything online at all because no matter how much you try you can't seem to work out where to correctly write your reply when quoting people  :D

But perhaps your comments shows a more surprising need for you to attend a charm school

  • Clearly something is seriously wrong at Ocado.  While I appreciate they are overwhelmed, they seem to have some VERY SERIOUS underlying problems relating to deliveries and their technology.
There is a rumour that they sacked all their drivers and made them self-employed for Ocado's own financial reasons, but this cannot be substantiated.
Forget trying to contact them by phone or email - all you get is standard apologies.  It is impossible to change your online order as their website will not allow access for 99.9% of the time.  In the unlikely event that you do get onto the site, they do not allow you to change the order which THEY have decided you are going to receive based on previous purchases (which one obviously may not want!).
A quick look at trustpilot reviews will confirm what I am saying.

But it gets worse - Because of all this my partner decided she does not want anything more to do with Ocado, so asked her bank to stop all future payments.  The bank say they cannot stop them because it is a "continuous payment" not a direct debit or standing order and it has to be cancelled BY OCADO.
Obviously, being unable to contact Ocado by normal means, it seems the only recourse is to send a recorded delivery letter to their registered office and take legal action to recover any unwarranted payments they take.
