Carers allowance, is some money taken from the person being cared for?

Hi, I'm confused. My MIL receives AA and pension credit and recently someone caring for her stopped caring and stopped receiving carers allowance.
I was told from hearsay that the money the carer was receiving was initially from my MIL's payments, is this correct? because since the caring has stopped my MIL's payments have not increased?
Now my sis in law and i care for her. I cannot claim as i receive over £123 a week despite only working two days.

thanks in advance!

I'm not aware that any deduction is made from the caree's benefits when CA is awarded. It certainly hasn't happened to us (CA awarded for child on DLA).

I've been getting mixed messages from people saying it has been deducted and others saying it's an independent payment

    CA is  a separate payment.
The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.

I stand to be corrected so don't quote me on this but I believe if someone is claiming carers allowance then severe disability payment is removed from the claim, so it would only impact on those claiming that in the first place.

Because she gets AA, if MIL lives alone then, now that no one gets Carer’s Allowance for looking after her, she is entitled to the Severe Disability Addition in her Pension Credit. However she will not get it automatically. If this is the situation she needs to ring Pension Credit 0800 731 0469 to update them and ask them to review her award. The SDA is worth an extra £65.85/week.

For someone living alone and getting a relevant disability benefit if somebody claims a benefit for looking after them (Carer's Allowance or carer element in Universal Credit) it means the cared for persons is not entitled to the severe Disability Premium/Addition in old means tested benefits such as Pension Credit, ESA, JSA or Housing Benefit. However it is not technically correct to say that the money is taken out of the cared for persons benefits.
Mil has now moved in with me & my family.I can't apply for carers allowance as i earn more than £123 . I was hoping the 'extra' premium could go to her but she won't be entitled i presume as she doesn't live alone. Thanks for the number I will speak to them

No, if she is living with you she will not be entitled to the SDP.

Just a thought; you may be entitled to a reduction in Council Tax if she is now living with you.

I recently claimed Carers Allowance and was advised online during the process that the person I care for may lose their Council Tax Reduction and that I had to tell the person this may happen. They live alone and get the 25% single occupant discount which should still be ok and an additional discount because they get AA.
