I had a BT engineer booked for this afternoon and as promised a lady engineer turned (I did'nt know there were any female engineers but I was sure she was as good as anyone else) up at 1.30pm.

I have had long running problems with broadband speeds being low and hub rebooting itself, largely now sorted but today's problem being noise on the line and as detected by the fault repair reception possibly a corroded terminal in the network.

I invited her into the house (the kitchen) and apologised for the mess as we are in the middle of major house repairs and the dogs usually ran in and out she said thats ok.

She did some tests at the master socket then said she would continue from the exchange end and went off saying she would phone me when she was returning to the house.

Over the next half hour the internet went off several times with various speeds on return (all lower) then it went off and took ages to return at 0.6mhz then nothing at all.

I got in the car and travelled to the exchange over a mile away and she was nowhere to be seen so obviously bu**ered off.

I tried phoning her mobile number she gave several times but it just goes to voicemail.

I had a text saying I had to make another appointment I rang the help desk and spoke to an indian woman who said she would make another appointment I explained the engineer today had disappeared she then put me on hold for ages and eventually came back not making an appointment and saying what I would think a made up story that my house was'nt clean enough.

Who do they think they are?

When I recalled I spoke to someone who said nothing of this and made another appointment for Friday.

The second person said would I like to register a complaint and I said yes.

    So what's your question?
BT say they have found a line fault, they've trotted off to the exchange, done something and they've found no fault there. That would imply the issue is either somewhere else (contrary to popular belief the phone system doesn't just stop at the green cabinets) and the issue has to be reported so somebody else can fix it, or there is actually nothing wrong.

The new appointment may require home access and for all you know the engineer came back to your house in your absence while you were tootling along to an exchange. That would automatically cancel it,. You probably should have stayed in, not gone gallivanting...

They have left me on that line left me with no service and bu**ered off not even calling me. They could not of come back while as you say "were tootling along to an exchange" as my OH was here and the engineer did not pass going tp there or returning.

    I do not gallivant

Nice to see you are up to your usual half-a-story standards when writing posts. Miss you in "Techie Stuff" :)

Hope your issue is solved soon.

I have not "half-a-story standards when writing posts." I have stated everything

The engineer could not of done anything to fix it at the exchange as I now have no service previously the broadband was'nt that bad - just noise on the line

To add insult to this I have just had an email saying they have closed the complaint.

    Why?

No one has spoken to me

If I had to come into your house to repair something and you allowed "the dogs to run in and out" around me I would leave!

You should be contacting these people to complain:
    https://www.ofcom.org.uk/complain-to-ofcom

What did you expect in the way of help here?

And if you do complain to Ofcom, aside from good luck with that, you will not have an "Indian" voice on the line, but clear English. How did you know she was Indian anyway? Was it a video call?
I think this job really needs
    a much bigger hammer.

    Engineers don't normally disappear.

Customer doesn't normally go to telephone exchange, surprised you would even know where that was.

    All very strange.

Even if he did find the exchange, surely he didn't gain entry and search the building? I don't imagine they answer the door to unannounced strangers.
