Very has ruined my credit rating

Options
Very

!

Back in May 2019 I found I was unable to access my account because my credentials were apparently incorrect. I tried to reset my password online but wasn’t able to. I made around 8 calls to Very in the months that followed, each time being promised a call back from IT/Technical Department. Due to not being able to access my account, I have been unable to make a payment, order anything or keep track of what I owed.

!

I have had many emails and texts from Very asking for payments. At first I was angry and told them that I would make a payment when my issue had been resolved. More requests for payment. I was told via text that I would receive paper statements but I haven’t received any. I have tried contacting a few times re payment but cannot get past the automated message as it is not understanding me. I have contacted Very also numerous times via Facebook but I cannot get anywhere. I did request paper statements going back months because I was concerned that they were charging interest on my BNPL items which I couldn’t see as I couldn’t access my account. I received no statements after being told I would. I also wanted to check for late payment fees as I wasn’t happy to pay these.

!

The shock came today when I applied for another current account with my long standing back, to be refused. This prompted me to download a credit report and was shocked to find that my once excellent credit rating is now very poor and the culprits are Very. It also illustrates that my balance has increase so they are obviously charging me interest/late payment fees. Can anyone offer advice on where I can go from here? I am very annoyed that my credit has been affected, I was planning on taking a loan for a car in the next few months due to needing an upgrade for a baby, but I am clearly not going to be able to get one because of this.

!

Many thanks

!

What do you mean when you say "Very has ruined your credit rating? What is the Very account status, as reported to the CRA"?

If it were me, I would just pay whatever was on the original monthly statement via phone. Then you can complain about the rest, as you have stated you were unable to log in due to Very IT issues.

  • Thank you. The trouble is I don't know what I owe as I can't log 8n and have had no statements. I am not paying a balance than includes late payment or interest fees after the time I was unable to log into my account.

Have you logged a complaint ?

Its not your score thats been ruined, your history is what lenders can see and so important.

Whats the response to the first questioned posed by Willing2Learn ?

Yup. Sorry, I wasn't clear in my last post. I meant that you phone them up and offer payment for everything you have bought (less interest and fees). You then make a written complaint about the fact that you have been unable to Logon for the last few months. That you reported the IT problem back in May/June 2019 and that no-one ever responded to your request for customer support. Make it clear that the interest and associated fees are disputed in the meantime.

Were you unable to phone them and sort the problems out?

You can pick the phone up and make a payment 24/7.

It would have been a simple task to ask the call handler what the minimum payment was.

I`m sorry but you have no case, you assumed the unavailability of your online account releases you from your financial obligations, well it dosen`t unfortunately, sorry if that`s not what you want to hear.

Unfortunately that's not how the world of business operates. You cannot offset one issue against another unrelated one. Your credit history will reflect the fact that you didn't pay on time. That's the bottom line.
  • I have phoned them numerous times. I am always nprinised a fall back which never comes. I just get fobbed off. So I don't know what I owe. I asked for X amount of months statements which never came. I can see my balance has increased from my credit report too so they have charged me for this. I would like the statements as I don't trust them to tell me the correct amount I should pay minus late payment fees and interest

I do tend to pay things in last minute.

I have a similar story with MBNA.

I am stoozing so I do go through a lot of different credit cards. Practically every card I had an account with would mark the pay in date as the day I initiated the faster payments transfer. Because according to the industry standard, they should receive the money within 2 hours.

Well MBNA had this annoying habit of marking the money as received 2 days later. I missed the due date, even though I sent the money the day before it was due.
