    I got scammed as a seller like that years ago. I never sold anything electric on there after.
    I sold a brand new iPod and the guy claimed I send a broken screen one even though it would have been impossible to break the screen especially when I saw the pic that the outside case was fine which meant it would have been impossible.

    Also had scratches on it which the one I sold didn't.


    eBay pretty much always sides with the buyer in those cases unfortunately. I lost out big style.

    I remember winning one, there may have been more.
    The one I recall was a buyer who claimed something was dangerous. The product was new from a reputable supplier and had no problems. On checking further I found that the buyer had tried to resell the product and it didn't sell.
    I pointed out to Ebay that if the buyer had been ok with selling the product then there couldn't be anything wrong with it, they'd described it as perfect.

    Ordinarily I'd just accept a return and move on but something made me look into this case.

  • Short of taking eBay to court there is nothing you can do.
    Surely if the seller is taking anybody to court, it should be the (allegedly fraudulent) buyer - not eBay?

  • Yes you can win it with a prolific scammer because you can contact other sellers who have left positive feedback for the buyer and ask if they had any problems. Build up a case against the buyer and ask eBay why their systems haven't picked up on this. And after all, it is us sellers who find these, albeit rare buyers who are prolific scammers and they do get shut down and I hardly see anywhere near as many as there was 5 or 6 years ago.

    Surely if the seller is taking anybody to court, it should be the (allegedly fraudulent) buyer - not eBay?

    Because it is eBay who made the decision and forced the refund.

    If so, there should be a different number on the returned item which you can point out to Ebay.

    Unfortunately just the item barcode on the outer packaging, the actual item has no serial numbers.

    You need to report to police and get a case number this is Ebay's standard practice when you appeal for fraud. You then file that number with your appeal. Follow the Ebay procedure through correctly. Sellers do not always lose appeals, Ebay will more than likely reimburse you even if they have already refunded your buyer.

    I called to my local police station and they practically laughed at me.

    I've been using eBay since the early days, about 20 years. In my opinion, I'm afraid to say it's no longer safe to sell on eBay. It's very easy for Buyers to claim refunds, get to keep your property and money. There's very little or nothing the Seller can do about it.

    Unfortunately, before listing an item for sale, eBay don't make it clear to Sellers that they could lose everything.

    In my opinion eBay's dispute policy is as follows:

    Seller = Guilty, give refund, lose your money and goods or you'll get Negative Feedback.

    Buyer = Innocent, here takes the goods and the money, don't forget to leave some nasty Feedback, have a nice day. :)
