Kenvisvis - what happened when you moved into your flat ? Did you read your meters and give them to the supplier or did someone else do it for you ?Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0

I will try to get in contact with the landlord to make sure the boiler is set up in the most efficient way. The hot water usually not last that long for some reason when I take shower, usually no more than 15mins; could this indicate that I set up something wrong? I only use fan heater to heat up the flat mostly in the night (sometime during the day but no more than 1-2 hrs). And yes, I did gave EDF the meter reading myself. I currently live in Bayswater, London but only will stay here until my contract ends in September. Is there going to be any point switching provider now? Thank you very much

As previously stated...I assume you don't have gas?
You still haven't told us how you heat your flat, apart from top ups.The hot water usually not last that long for some reason when I take shower, usually no more than 15mins
Don't expect the landlord to know much about energy efficiency. He doesn't pay your bills, why should he research it for you?0 -
I don't have gas in my flat. It might sound odd but I dont really heat up the flat, my living room is stone cold, I just blanket up or use fan heater when its too unbearable. As I have mentioned, I only use fan heater on temp control to heat up my bedroom during the night.
For the immersion boiler, would it be better to switch it on before I need it and switch it off, or is it better to leave it on to boil during the night and switch off during the day? Im from South America so I have no idea about any of these things. Thanks

What is the heating system provided by the landlord? Surely there's some fixed infrastructure, e.g. to stop the pipes freezing if it's not let for a few weeks? :huh:0

Ideally you would be using the lower of the two immersion heaters over night only. Having this on during the day is costing you a lot.
Similarly running a fan heater overnight is going to be expensive as well.
Is there no other form of heating fitted in the flat?0 -
There are wall panel heaters fitted but for some reason they heat up but doesnt radiate heat. For the boiler I will try set it to full boil overnight and switch it off during the day. Thank you very much

As previously requested, does the hot water tank have two immersion heaters? If so, the lower one should be switched by the meter and the upper one should usually be left switched off.
It may be that the landlord is a cheapskate and there is only one immersion heater on a 24-hour supply. If so, that's bad news because it will often recharge at the expensive peak rate after you've had a shower or finished the washing up. It will also be difficult to stop it using peak rate because your E7 cheap rate hours are likely to be 2230 - 0030 and 0230 - 0730 GMT so if you switch it on manually at midnight most of its usage will be at peak rate. Call free on 0800 029 4285 to find out your switching times, or look at the meter and see when it switches over.0 -
It's worth switching for a week if it saves you money; you need to find out whether the tariff you have has exit fees.
If you are from South America, you probably are not used to feeling cold. This is England; wear more clothes and get used to it. Buy some blankets and turn the very expensive fan heater off.0
