Blue Passport

My passport is valid till March 2020. Alas with only one month remaining I am unlikely to be able to use it anyway.
Although it sounds daft I'd like a new Blue Passport when it is replaced. The latest information is that both burgundy and blue ones are to be issued for the next couple of months until a point when all new passports will be UK Blue ones.
Would different issuing offices issue different colour ones for the interim period, how could I find out so that I could guarantee the one I want.

There is no way to find out.0

Every passport office will have a batch of the burgundy ones 'in stock'. Until they have been used up they are unlikely to be using the blue ones. If you are renewing by post you could always put a note in asking if it's possible to have a blue one.0

Or, assuming you’re not going to need it in the meantime, wait a few months before renewingEverything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the endQuidquid Latine dictum sit altum videtur0

You cannot guarantee you will get one yet.
"The new blue passport design will start being issued from early 2020.
Blue passports will be phased in over a number of months. If you renew your passport during this initial period, you may be issued with either a blue or a burgundy British passport. All styles of passport will be equally valid for travel.
All British passports issued from mid-2020 will be blue."I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Quick Grabbit, Freebies, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning and the UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.

I heard much the same advice from Simon Calder who always seems well informed. I can't see how they can be precise on mid 2020 as surely it depends on the number of applications between then and now. Unless even more money is to be wasted on aspirational deadlines .

'Er indoors and I have renewed in the past two weeks, and we both received burgundy passports.
Strange thing was we each returned the "old" passports to a different location as per instructions, one in Durham, the other in Peterborough.0 -

The passports don’t get printed at the local offices unless the premium Service is used. They are printed at a central location so it won’t make any difference what office your application is sent to.0 -

You should try for one of these. :rotfl:

Surely the reason they are saying 'mid 2020' is because they can't be precise.0
