  • I thought i had done well Monday at Tesco's, i have a light fitting which needs 3 bulbs (lamps?) but goes through them like nobodies business. They had 3 for two on long life low voltage thingies so i got them, very carefully checking for the screw in fitting ... just to get them home and find i had the right fitting, just wrong size! ah well ....

Hence a trip in to change them but they didnt have any in the correct type so i got a refund and bought some lunch, value gammon steaks to try and some ordinary bulbs (lamps? can you tell we had an electrician in at work trying to educate me on the correct terminology??)
  • I'd love a tartan trolly. Ok well maybe not tartan but one of those nice jazzy ones you see. There was one in Habitat once and I thought DH might go for it but he claims he would rather starve than be seen with one (or have me be seen with one :))

Just awaiting my big tesco shop - not sure how much it will cost but will update tomorrow. It really irritates me the way they give you a guide price without codes etc removed :( I reckon should be around £70.

And nopot sorry to hear about the hand, was going to tell you not to lift a finger but seemed a bit tactless :) seriously tho don't be a hero! I agree fully with Jacks chocolate and films prescription but I'd say twice a week until Xmas and then see how you go :) Come back to us if you need another sick line...

Been to Lidl yesterday. Grocery £19.84 and pressies £20. They had a nice 81 piece wooden train set for my DS1. £13.99 from Eichhhorn. Expensive company out in Germany. But I haven't even seen anything that good value in Mr T etc.

Mr T delivery arrived today too. It came to £37.53. That should last us until just after christmas. So, there should be only the pheasant and meat delivery and the cheeseboard for christmas to pay, and a small shop in Lidl. Hopefully, that will take us just over budget.......

    Hi everyone

Did my weekly shop a day early as I have to take DH to the GP tomorrow morning for his cholesterol test (he will be fasting and he doesn't cope with needles very well). I went after work and my weekly swim (22 lengths!) but was a bit disappointed not to find more money off or reduced items even though it was after 7 pm. Never mind I am still on target I think. I have enough food to last to Thursday week and have stocked up on mince for the freezer.

I am dead chuffed because last week when I shopped in the Co-op I bought a large fresh chicken half price and for £2-58 got 11 dinners and a round of sandwiches plus a litre of lovely stock out of it! - Mustn't let it go to my head though!

Nopot - hope the hand isn't throbbing too much! Take care.
  • Okay so my tesco delivery arrived (ten mins early, they always seem to be outside their time slot these days not that I'm complaining). The house is now officially coming down with food. £68.10 in the end up and well worth not having to struggle to the supermarket (also a £12 off voucher yay so once delivery charge comes off, £8 saved). This total included 2 cheese boards for gifts over the Xmas period as well as all the ingredients for a dessert for about 20 people on Xmas day (my contribution to the big dinner).

In theory this means I should have a nice lean January. I am debating trying to set a yearly GC target of around £1800. This works out at around £150 a month which is a good bit below what we're currently spending but we have a pretty much no spend month in September since we go away and if I can manage a lean January then I'd be well on the way. The idea of working towards a bigger target also somehow pleases me - the idea of saving this month so I can go mad next month if I want (but I won't :)). Does it make sense to anyone else??

Anyhow not a lot to buy for the rest of the month so still hoping to make it!

Not sure I could do this BG23..... I find it difficult to project for the one month, let alone 12 months:eek:

And what about those unexpected spends of persons visting ect ect... Is this included on your budget...... Or do you have a seperate budget for this ??

But, as you say.... "working towards a bigger target also somehow pleases me"

You could always try for 3 or 6 months at a time to climatise yourself :D

Hi everyone. Just a quick question. I often think about ordering groceries online but is it really viable to spend less than £40 on line when you consider delivery etc??? Can you use vouchers online for a spend of less than £50? And what delivery windows can you get? I could not afford-or bear to stay in for a full day waiting. Aany advice greatly appreciated!!!! Thanks

Hi Frazzmunch. Well done we're really proud of you too. It can be quite daunting working out finances etc, but this website is like the 4th emergency service!!!!!:j It has helped me and motivated me so much.
Meal planning I struggle with as ds1 and ds2 don't like the same thing unless it's egg and chips or pizza and we can hardly live on just that can we!!!LOL suggestions gratefully received!!!
Continued good luck anyway and to everyone else of course
