  • Is it worth listing out the contents of cupboards (I keep a copy of what should be in there taped to the inside of the door). Get OH to cross out stuff as its running out.

Sounds a bit control freaky, but I work away from home a lot and as a result, stuff runs out when I am not about to note it down. It is easier to shop when I can go around and note down what has been crossed off and reprint the sheets when I do a shop.

I do it for the freezer and fridge too. Its the only way I can stay sane!

As I do most of my Tesco shopping online (unless I go to Lidls for food stuff), I do this when I am usually away from home, so grabbing the lists on the way out helps me.

Another way is to get him to participate when you are putting the shopping list together.

Yes I try that. And I try saying I'm going shopping today - anything you need? No.

He says I should look when I make my list - apparently in every cupboard in kitchen, bathroom and memorise the contents of the fridge, as well as predict when he will want extra cereal and use up all the week's milk in two days

    Hi

Went to the shops for a few more bits today - managed to get a couple of reduced price joints (beef and pork) and some booze for Christmas so was pleased to only spend about £15. Will probably need some milk tomorrow, but should be OK for the rest until next Monday. Fingers crossed!

    Hi all,

Well ended up at the shops again as needed a few bits of veg even though I only shopped on Saturday! total cost was £12 but this was for 8pts of milk, cheese and some cooking ingredients also.

£90.60 left out of £160 budget so still positive.
  • Can I join please?

I'm sure the majority of my money gets spent on food.

I have a weekly income so I would be looking to reduce on a weekly basis.

i got paid last Thursday but haven't used any money this month yet as I had money left over from last month. Should I count that in this months spend?

    Hi
I'm a newbie so I hope this is in the right place

I found a great way to save on grocery shopping!! If you shop online with a major supermarket there are money off codes all over the net. You end up saving between £5 - £10 per week and thats with the delivery charge!! Also as you shop on line there are no impulse buys. I have reduced my weekly shop from £100 to £75 this way - can't recommend it enough

  • I posted earlier but somehow it seems to have got lost?? Anyway just to say that I spent £4.60 in M&S last night. I feel that I was very restrained :) since I very nearly bought a lot of bread on BOGOHP but resisted at the end. I might go back and get some at the weekend though since I do really like their bread and it freezes well. I did buy a loaf, two lots of loose tea on BOGOHP (we were running out!) and some hummus. The tea interestingly was cheaper than my usual so looking forward to seeing if it's good :)

Oh and I will need a tesco trip this weekend cos we have a bit of a do on Saturday so will end up feeding a few extra people. Hope not to spend more than about £10.

Mrsmcawber you have seriously put me in the mood for some clemetines. Not sure about a box though since I usually eat them till they're gone and at this rate it might make me sick :) And loobylee you're def right about online shopping.

As for the complaints about DHs I won't even start. Mine has developed a weetabix obsession and we're nearly out again ....
