I think it's hopeless to try to avoid infection if you're travelling abroad in an area where COVID-19 is rampant. At the moment, in the UK, your chances of coming into contact with it in the ordinary course of events seems to be very low still. So, enjoy your Toby whilst you can!
I over-think and worry about big things, like leaving the house/going out to buy a pie .... not whether I'll catch some rampant global killer virusย ย

My daughter is due to get married in mid April - in northern Italy, although not in one of the "quarantined" towns.
She is adamant the wedding will still go ahead, but goodness knows what will happen. Not a nice situation to be in. 80 guests booked to come, majority from UK but some of the groom's Italian family and friends.

I thought it might be a good idea to dig out my thermometers, which I havenโt used for yonks and yonks. I knew I had some, because I reorganised my medical boxes about 4 months ย ago.
So I found them.ย
I have one mercury thermometer which must ย be at least 40 years old, if not older. Donโt think Iโll risk using that one! Not in the mouth, at any rate!
Then I found the little strip thing that I used for taking the sprogsโ temperatures when they ย were tiny, so that must be 36 or 37 years old. It still works, but isnโt terribly accurate.
And finally, I found a digital one, Canโt remember when I bought that, or when I last used it. Must be at least ten years, if not more. Anyway, I tried it and it still works! Inside its case I found a piece of paper on which I had written conversions of temperature from Centigrade to Fahrenheit, so I was obviously thinking in Fahrenheitish when I bought it. ๐(I just lurve spiders!)

Then again when I do eventually find a thermometer that seems to work I will generally compare the reading against someone who is well as I don't really believe what they say is at all accurate.ย When the DKs were young we bought an IR ear thermometer but it came with so many warnings that we never dared use it....I think....5 -
I went out "panic buying"... In my own home, with free rein over space, I'd typically have 2-3 months of loo rolls under the stairs.ย Here, with limited space, I'd reverted to having "just enough/in time".ย I figured that just enough/in time could be a poor plan as all it takes is one badly worded media piece for shelves to empty and there to be a 2 day wait for lorries to stock up ... maybe longer if that media piece had made people queue to wait for that lorry too
ย
So I picked up a couple of spare packs.ย It's the small/cheap "ยฃ1.99 for six"ย own brand I get from 4ldi, so it's not like trying to find space for bumper packs of super-fluffy stuff.ย Each pack is the size of a generous cornflake packet.ย
That's the end of my "panic buying".ย I did pick up a couple of jars of jam and two pouch rices while I was out, but that wasn't prepping.ย
In the shop there was a woman with a 4-year-old-lad in the trolley seat... he was coughing like a good un. No hint of a tissue or hanky and mum was oblivious (as they are).ย Not bothered, kid won't have it, but it's that whole laissez faire attitude that I find a little irksome.ย
Having got back to the car, I used a wipe on my hands .... and, once home, I also wiped my keyboard.ย Wiping my keyboard every time I've been out now.ย4 -
There's definitely a trend for properties without any windows.... just spotted a flat for sale, didn't want it/didn't expect to like it, but viewed the listing anyway.ย 2 bed flat, ยฃ220k.ย
Bedroom 2 has a window, the only actual window in the whole place it looks like.ย
Bedroom 1 has a glass door to the garden/patio.ย
The living room has the kitchen in the corner and has a glass door to the garden/patio.ย
Both these doors are singles.
In short: this is a 2 bed flat, with one solitary "window" in bedroom 2.ยย

Well, I have gone down with yet another mildish URTI/cold, and feel rather unwell, so am back in bed.
Have taken my temperature twice but donโt have one.
However, given that over the last three weeks I have been far more careful ... minimising going out, choosing slack times of day to go into shops on the rare occasion I do go out, foaming my hands every time I left a shop, washing my hands much more frequently, etc., I have still managed to pick up a virus, even if just a common or garden one. ๐น
Hermithood is the way to go, I reckon.
Trouble is, that results in other problems like ย forgetting what day it is and talking to oneself out loud (more than usual), etc.ย
