Been out this morning, kept my distance from people in queues (but people still queue too close). Chap behind me in one coughed without putting his hand over his mouth. Ditto a woman browsing the chilled cabinet in the next shop.
They are among us.... the great unwashed. And they weren't grubby looking people. The woman was quite smartly and well dressed (bearing in mind this was 4ldi).4 -

Presently safe situations and not recommended practices:
- No need to avoid crowded places like public transport, mass events etc.
- Wearing of surgical facemasks in public has no proven benefit and promulgates fear. UNQUOTE
QUOTEFacemask
A facemask or “surgical mask” (Spanish: Mascarilla quirúrgica, French: Masque chirurgical, German: OP-Maske) is intended to catch bacteria and viruses shed from the wearer’s mouth and nose. There is no unified international quality standard. Especially in Asia, very poor quality masks are sold. This is the kind of mask almost everybody wears now in China.

@PasturesNew
As you don’t like your present abode, I suggest the following course:-
Quickly find alternative short term accommodation.
Dial 111 reporting your landlord as having Coronavirus. Once she’s been isolated and proved free of the virus, she’ll kick you out but have to return your unused rent. Job done!
You can’t say you don’t get useful advice on this thread!
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?6 -

Seriously, though, one thing the ukulele man said in that article was this.......

3. Avoid close contact with people who were in the People’s Republic of China in the last 14 days.

By the way, for those that don’t go there very often, The Arms is up in arms, (pun intended), because there is no Thanks button there. It’s been withdrawn due to it having been used ‘inappropriately’ sometimes, apparently, allegedly.
It’s really getting on people’s nerves, including mine, as people just want to thank people for perfectly nice reasons and now can’t.
It is sooooooooooo frustrating.
Thank goodness it’s still on here.(I just lurve spiders!)

Aye, it looks like there's revolution brewing over in Arms/DT and Site Feedback has become such a bloodbath they've had to close the snagging thread because they can't keep up.
I do hope MSE put an end-user satisfaction performance metric in their contractual payment terms with Vanilla - because if so - they should be getting the new platform for free.
Sadly what I suspect will have happened is what I've seen happen all too often with big software projects in real life - the consultants and service providers will have designed the contract to measure an 'easy to demonstrate success in' selection of back office measures - with the incorrect assumption that end-users will 'get used to the changes' (or be forced to 'like it or lump it').
The ensuing carnage and long term decline in users usually results in heads rolling - but by then it's too late - as the software company has swanned off into the sunset with a big payday and onto the next project.
Bad web design and badly handled changes have led to a long list of formerly successful social and community sites being ruined in the past - with the inevitable outcomes of the brand being severely damaged, the community in tatters, formerly loyal users aggravated into leaving, and one of the most successful websites in the UK losing it's core user-base over a poorly handled set of changes that were all too predictable and avoidable, never to recover...
I do hope MSE recognise their mistakes and reverse/fix them before it's too late... But the response to date has been as poorly handled as the migration. Not even an apology so far, let alone recognition that they've seriously messed up the user experience for so much of the community and a major re-think is required.“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.
Belief in myths allows the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought.”

It’s been closed so they can work through the problems that have so far been identified. This does make sense as regular users should have identified key problems by now and the thread was becoming repetitive as well as people asking how to do various things that are now being answered in a different thread.
Also, supposedly the old forum was on its knees and liable to keel over. The need for a revamp was urgent.
