Scammed by online gambling company

Hi guys need your help been recently joined a gambling site and made a 11 deposits in the space of 4 hours totalling 1800 euros only to find out when I checked my emails later that in fact there was a daily deposit limit on my account of three deposits in a day or 500 euro. But the company still let me keep depositing. I’ve contacted the company but heard nothing i feel like I’ve been scammed and don’t know what to do. Is it worth ringing bank to see if they can do anything.

If the money's not in your gambling site balance it should bounce back into your current account within a couple of days. A similar thing happened to me when I tried to deposit too much in a savings account with a pay-in limit. I was very worried for a bit but the next day saw the deposit had been returned.

If it's in your gambling balance you can normally just withdraw it straight back out.

If you're having gambling problems - ie if you can't afford to lose 1800 Euros - then please seek help overcoming them.
  • The problem I have is that there was a limit on my account of 3 deposits a day or 500 euro but they went over that. I didn’t realise until I read email that there was a deposit limit on there. So they shouldn’t have took money
  • I’m not disputing the first 3 deposits totalling 200 euro it’s the other 8 totalling 1600 euro I’m disputing.
  • This was the first of 11 deposits that day

Do you mean you deposit the money and lost it to gambling and latter realised there is a limit that should have prevented you from being able to make the deposit and safe you from yourself.

Or do you mean it is an automated system, and the gambling company or their computer have taken money from your account without your permission despite the limit?

If the former, it is not fraud though you can argue the limit is not working and raise a complaint with the company and pray you get something back. If the gambling company fail to do anything, escalate to the relevant authority. I don’t think your bank will be able to help you here as you have deposited the money yourself. Saying that, you need to seek help because even if you get something back, you will soon lose it and more later.

If the later, the gambling company is at fault and the procedure is still as above but you could also try to involve your bank. The more experience posters will be able to help about your chance of reversing the payments.

Did you WANT to gamble with €1800? Or are you saying you didn't WANT to do that, but it appears to have let you?

If you didn't want to gamble with that much, why even try to deposit it?

Are you upset that they didn't (appear to have, as yet, as it may bounce back) restrict you to €500?

Have you already placed bets with this money, or is it sitting in your account?

As others have said, you need to get help with the issue of your gambling, as this incident seems to have effected you in a negative way.

Why are you gambling that much money ?

Do you need to contact 1 of the gambling charities ?

Maybe the money will be returned to you, have you asked them what would happen in this instance ?

You could have lost the missing money from gambling so your in the same position if you don't get it back.

    This doesn’t seem particularly clear.

Have you deposited the €1,800 and gambled and lost it or have some of your deposits not been credited?

If it’s the former then the gambling site look to have ignored the safeguard that they say is in place. I would say that you should complain to them and request that they refund to your current account the amount that is over €500 or three deposits. If they have a U.K. licence then complaining to the relevant regulator would be the next step if your initial complaint doesn’t work.

If it’s the latter then the funds should automatically be returned to you in a few days.

As has already been pointed out, this incident is not the biggest problem. We don’t know your circumstances but that’s a lot of money for most people. From those of us on the outside it seems that you have a problem. If you also think that you are gambling too much then seek help immediately. There are advice lines where people will understand the issues and many banks give the option of barring gambling sites.

I should point out that I’m not an expert in any of this and it’s all simply my opinion.

Did you send them those documents?

How much exactly has been credited to your gambling account? What happened to that credited money? did you lose it all?
