Hi
I only found this by sheer luck received the latest copy of Sky magazine and, as usual, loads of bumph dropped out and amongst it was the leaflet stating that they were changing their privacy rules. (See below)
I am extremely annoyed and I suspect the legality of these proposed changes I strongly object to this and think it is disgusting way to treat customers this is nothing more than cynical profiteering and an abuse customer’s rights and trust and am stongly cosidering cacelling my subscription.
All this is further compounded by
1 – Not informing customers personally in writing
2 - Charging customers on 08702 numbers
PS This number gets you through directly to an advisor at national rate 01506 421813
How information we hold about you can be used

I agree with you this is not good. They should have written individually to customers if they were going to do this.
At least you got the info though - since I cut my package to 4 mixes I was told I was no longer eligible for the SKy magazine (not that I miss it much, lol!) and so I expect I will not be receiving this information at all. Surely this is illegal?0 -
I think its a disgrace, as they know not many people will bother to contact them because
a) they didn't notice that piece of paper!
b) it costs a fortune to ring them anyway.
I think even if you rang them they still wouldn't take any notice, they are very inefficient. When I connected to Sky last year I had to ring them eight times to be able to watch anything anyway. The Sky man put the box in and then said I wouldn't be able to watch Sky until they sent me a Sky card, so that was the first of my calls. They said it had been sent but lost in the post, but when my daughter connected to Sky this year she had the same problem. Lost in the post? Yeah right, not sent at all I think. Do they make money on these calls?0 -
Thanks for this - I hardly ever read the magazine so would not have found out. It is an appalling way to treat customers. Thanks for all the info - I've printed it off.KNIT YOUR SQUARE TOTALS:

I dont think they are changes they are in the original contract you signed i beleive, cant find mine but sure its in there.0

I think other posters have commented from time to time that they thought other companies had obtained their info from sky.this confirms it.If you have been with them for a while is there now much point in contacting them?0

I received a package addressed to me personally. On the same sheet as my name and address were the words "IMPORTANT! TERMS AND CONDITIONS UPDATE INSIDE". Inside was a sheet with the new terms and conditions, which seem to be similar to those most companies use.
Would it have been better if the new T's and C's were printed on the same piece of paper as the name and address?0 -

And I'm still paying the normal £19. I don't know what's happened. We so barely watch the thing anyway, say only a few hours a night tops. We noticed it when channel hopping.
Has that happened to anyone else? Like, ALL channels would be pretty mega expensive. Me thinx that something has gone wrong, either with the box or someone's typed the wrong numbers at their end when doing something else.
We asked sky to downgrade us to the standard package 6 months ago, the date for the change came and went and we still have the full package despite being charged for the basic one

Keep trap shut matePayback for all the hassle Ive had off them over the years!

Lucky you!! When i downgraded it all went off within the hour!!
Yes i am annoyed about Sky too.You get bombarded enough with junk these days, but i am registered with the Telephone Preference Service so any company that calls me,i get very angry.Emails and mail in the post doesn't seem quite as bad as it is not so intrusive.0 -
thank god for this site, thank god for this forum, thank god for this thread....
BE WARNED: there is a phone number on the Sky mag label that informs you that you can opt out of the policy change re using your data anyway they like.
1) I phoned this morning to 'opt out' of this all-consuming data use
2) after options button pushing ad infinitum, I was put on hold for c. 8 minutes
3) when answered, I stated my request to opt out clearly and was asked to hold again whilst my request was processed.
4) after 2-3 minutes on hold, I was informed it would be done.
5) I added that here is NO info on the Sky mag label OR in the Sky mag as to the cost of calls for this 'opt out' option.
6) I asked if it was a premium cost number, and he replied 'Yes'
7) I asked the cost of the call, and he informed me that my call to Sky was costing me £8 per minute
YES, FOLKS - I REPEAT - £8 PER MINUTE
8) I asked his full name for reference and stated my intention to make a formal complaint to Trading Standands as I consider this to be one of the most despicable examples of sharp practice I have ever encountered.
9) He replied with an indifferent ' Goodbye' and hung up.
The Sky.com website has no links for 'opt-out', complaints or cancelling Sky subscription. All those type of enquiries via the FAQs section refer you only to the same scam phone number. and one of unanswered the FAQs link is the ominous sounding 'how much will it cost me to cancel my subscription?' 3 guesses which phone number that leads you to....!
I am bloody furious, hopping mad and I can't calm down enough to make a coherent complaint to Trading Standards.
so hear are some Questions I need answering...
anyone else suffered this?
anyone else up for class action or small claims court?
how the hell do I cancel Sky without phoning the premium rate number and being put on hold to Mozart whilst steam comes out of my ears @ £8 PER MINUTE
heeeelllllllpppppp......!0 -
It will NOT be £8 per minute. Maximum charge will be £1.50 per minute (still a lot i know but nowhere near the £8 quoted)
Infact i beleive tha Sky number (08702....) is 8pence per minute0
