Gas and electric from different suppliers

I'm just in the process of changing my supplies as my contract end 28th Feb, and i thought i'd look at getting 2 quotes 1 for gas only and 1 for electric only and comparing them with the dual fuel. I'm really surprised, even after taking into account the dual fuel saving offered i can save nearly £75 getting it from different suppliers. Does anyone have any advise on Symbio Winter Monthly Plan January 20 v2 or Gulf Home Renewable 12 February 21 v2 they both seem very low unit rates and even with a slightly higher standing charge, offer a considerable saving on the best dual fuel plan i can find which is Yorkshire Green Swaledale - Fixed until 28th February 2021.
Interestingly I am currently with Yorkshire so changing tariff but staying with Yorkshire wold be a lot simpler but £75 saving is still £75!

  • It may be worth reading the Symbio feedback thread when making a decision

They had some issues with billing in January, which annoyed a lot of people, and they are also under pressure to become smart meter compliant in the next few months, or the regulator will block them from taking on new customers.

There is a feedback thread for Gulf too, but it only has 5 posts.

It always varies dual fuel or separate dependant upon offers / prices .

I'm also switching from dual fuel with YE to Gulf and Neon Reef. Yes, it's a low tariff but gas prices are falling; as a newcomer to the UK market they're ahead of the pack in cutting prices, but others will surely follow soon. They're a long established company in the US so I'm not expecting them to go bust.

The good news is that they have an 0800 number and it's easy to get through, but it's only office hours M-F. During the cooling off period I asked them to move to me from v1 to v2; they agreed, but sent an email saying that it would trigger a new 14-day cooling off period. However when I called them they were efficient and friendly, assuring me it would start as planned on 3 February. So far it's all good.

Symbio seem like Marmite, just read the thread.

Neon Reef are cheap but as they're part of Utility Point it remains to be seen whether they're cheerful...

Gulf are cheaper for me, but So Energy are not far behind and the nice thing is that they will allow you to switch tariff mid contract, and the fee is only £5. I already switched once (saved £40 - £5). I could switch again and save (£30 - £5) but am hanging on in the expectation that their next tariff will be even cheaper.

Switched to AVRO for both last September, having been with separate suppliers for the previous ~3 years. At the time I could have saved by staying with two companies - but one would have been Symbio - a bridge too far I thought!!
However, I intend to switch fairly soon (as soon as my credit with Avro is virtually zero!) and it looks like separating the two could be on the cards - Gulf at the moment for gas and Green for leccy
