The photos actually make it look far, far better than it is - in reality the whole place is a giant bodge job. There are also photos on Zoopla from a previous listing where you can clearly see evidence of the stairs that used to be into that loft room, and have now been removed. The agent was a little surprised when I asked why the staircase had been removed.."Oh there's never been stairs!" Ummm...yes, there has.... "Oh....". He was surprised all over again when I asked what the story was with the kitchen on the landing that's now been cleared out...

As we left he said "well, thanks for coming along - and if there is any offer you'd like to make, really, anything at all, just put it to us and it'll be considered..." No, you're alright thanks!
Kitchen on the landing?  Did someone just say 'unlicensed HMO'?

Edit: ignore that, have managed to track down the original listing.  The place appears to have been converted into two separate flats upstairs, sharing a kitchen, whilst remaining relatively normal downstairs.  One wonders if there were more flats in the loft...
Oh, the loft…yes, that’s another bodge.  Giant loft room, divided into two, but not as two more flats exactly.

Our suspicion from what we were told is that it was a family who needed more space but possibly couldn’t move because of mortgage affordability - so they built the dodgy loft room and bodged a staircase. We suspect that the couple then split up, but again, couldn’t afford to actually live separately - hence the kitchen on the landing, and the two en-suites - in addition to the shower room downstairs (which was a disaster zone). It appears that they had some good ideas for the property, but most of them have been horribly poorly executed.

So less a jack and jill bathroom than a jack bathroom and a jill bathroom?  There's also a baffling lack of carpet.

If you saw the state of the carpet in that shower room you’d be quite grateful for the lack of carpets elsewhere… 😆

The green fireplace is certainly a find. Shame the chimney stack has been removed.

Never mind all that…the bathroom? And the “interestingly placed” mirror?! 👀 I mean why?! *

    * Edit - please take it that the question is rhetorical! 😆

Looks like the fireplace is Voysey style. Probably £1000 for a style one and many thousands if it’s an actual Voysey. His more fancy tiles go for £1000 for two. https://www.antiqueendeavors.com/webshop/antique-fireplace-tiles/arts-crafts-voysey-pilkington-s-green-fish-leaf-tile-panel-c1902/ I would love a Voysey style fireplace.

And I think it a marvellous idea to build the kitchen across the back door, great use of redundant space.  After all, you can access the garden through the French doors.  Think of the security risk you have eliminated!  I love innovative ideas like this.  I am certain that others will emulate these designs into their own homes in the future!

Brilliant thinking.  When the washing machine breaks down, instead of pulling it out into the room, go outside, open the door and you have rear access to fix it in situ.  Genious.
    Very handy.
