Yes, if it is a Japanese bath you would expect it to be much deeper than a "hip" bath, up to your shoulder when sat or squatting down. It helps that the Japanese are not a tall race on average but then neither am IGers said:

Actually makes sense if you only have the space for a shower or still need to bathe the kids , though older adults getting in or out could be tricky for those with impaired mobility.ProDave said:

I could sit on the edge and swing into it, perhaps there's a ledge for sitting on so no having to be recumbent, and then easier to get out of. Getting up from lying in the bath is something I stopped being able to do years ago.In my imagination it would work but not in a position to confirm it!0 -

There doesn't seem to be any curtain on the other side for splashes.1
