My immediate reaction was block of flats.Gers said:0 -
It's the second bathroom though. there is also a shower room downstairs. I wonder why they didn't get someone to come pop a handrail on the staircase before listing this - would seem like an obvious thing to do and probably doesn't cost all that much given what they're asking for the property. Other than the staircase it's a beautiful property.Patr100 said:Bathroom off the bedroom and those stairs look dangerous - surely building regs would never have passed them.

Wouldn't let a kid anywhere near that staircase though.General_Grant said:

I live in a house with a wall but no handrail on it on one side of a fairly wide staircase the the other side has had the handrail removed so that it would be possible to fall if determined to do so.
I do know that this would have to be "corrected" if it were to be let rather than simply sold on,0 -
I agree that is a nicely done house. The staircase really wouldn't bother me. We have family who have a very similar terraced house with the steep stairs in the same place. Other then their stairs being enclosed by a wall they are the same. Wouldn't pass modern regulations but were perfectly fine when the property was built.Hannimal said:

Not sure how practical it is in actual use but what I do think is quite clever is the hanging netting/mesh behind the sofa. Gives some privacy if the front door is open from peering doorsteppers but without the cost and permanence of an actual wall or solid partition.3

I’m struggling to see how the upstairs and downstairs floorplans bear any relation to each other here

Not a design trend I'm keen on but it's pretty common these days for stairs to be open on one side.Patr100 said:Bathroom off the bedroom and those stairs look dangerous - surely building regs would never have passed them.

https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/88194778#/It could be that the upstairs party wall is not directly above the downstairs party wall that creates an interesting flying freehold issue? Also the ground floor wraps around behind the back of the adjacent house.0 -
It's not a room, it's the foot of the second staircase that leads to the back bedroom. Each bedroom has independent access by means of its own staircase! It's an interesting arrangement and, if similar to other old cottages in Essex, hints that it may actually have been two separate dwellings at one time. The front half would be a one up one down, as would the back half. The door to the staircase would have been on the wall of the back parlour.RelievedSheff said:
